No Matter What A Glacier Does, It Is Due To Global Warming

When glaciers recede (as they have been doing for most of the past 20,000 years) alarmists blame it on global warming.

They also blame advancing glaciers on global warming

Iceberg B09B has cut off Cape Denison from the Southern Ocean and filled Commonwealth Bay with fast ice, leaving penguins short of food and their numbers are falling

with climate warming, the rate at which icebergs are calving off the ice edge is increasing so the number of times in which icebergs will cut off access to colonies is going to occur more frequently.”

This is technically correct in IPCC circles (if you add Anthropogenic in front of it). Whenever anybody mentions AGW the conversation can be easily killed by asking what phenomenon if any would convince your interlocutor otherwise.

The 100% consensus is that there is no possible event or set of events that would disprove AGW.

  2. Gamecock says:

In the wild, populations grow uncontrolled, until mass die-offs bring populations back down.

    Nature bad. Man good.

  3. Justa Joe says:

Funny how global warming, which if it existed could only be considered neutral phenomenon, only causes things to happen that a human would consider bad.

  4. gator69 says:

Odd, the oldest penguin fossil is over 60 million years old. I guess ice ages were warmer back then.

    • Phil Jones says:

Good point… Apocalyptists infer that Penguins are having trouble reaching their mating grounds due to Global Warming… Yet, somehow these creatures have survived for 60 million years…

With great regret I report that Columbia’s alumni magazine is parroting the same old alarm this year:
    http://i42.tinypic.com/2j31j5w.jpg

It’s on geochemist Peter Kelemen of the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, located not just off campus but off island in upstate NY, tying his funding to plant food capture and storage underground.

“Since the Industrial Revolution, the amount of carbon dioxide in Earth’s atmosphere has risen more than 40%, sealing in heat and wreaking havoc with our climate.”

And my placid peers wondered why I ditched research in favor of small business, in the late 90s!

    • Phil Jones says:

“Increased by 40%” sounds like a lot … Until they tell you it’s in parts per million….

In other words having 400 pennies as opposed to 320 puts you 40% closer to being a millionaire??? Progressive math folks…

  6. Bill says:

You need to get with the times. It is now called Global Climactic Enchangening and it can explain everything. Only progressives can understand it so we all need to just shut up.

  7. Steve Case says:

They also claim that when the glaciers recede away to nothing the river will run dry, which is a load of crappola if you think about it.

    • Anthony S says:

All the more amusing when you consider that during the 60’s and 70’s, researchers were trying to figure out how to melt glaciers to enhance river flow.

  8. glenncz says:

Here’s a scary picture, this glacier used to be way up there in the mtns, and now it fills the entire lagoon, Climate Change of course.
These morons say that before the lagoon was unfrozen, now it’s filled with ice, which is going to cause sea level to rise. Got it? As the article states, “it’s chilling”.

As I have said, they will never give up. They need to be declared insane and tucked neatly away somewhere, where they cannot harm the rest of us.

There was a paper out this year which finds evidence of extreme snowfalls in Eastern Antarctica between 2009 – 2011. Could it be that there is just too much ice? Record cold recorded there this year too. It’s worse than we thought. Lots of cold, snow and extent and they say global warming is making it worse. 🙁 These geniuses went to the wrong part of Antarctica. :O
