Understanding The Press Corpse

It is OK for Obama to call Republicans terrorists, arsonists, extortionists, traitors, flat earthers and a death cult.

But say one disparaging thing about gays, and your career is over.

Duck Dynasty has more viewers than there are homosexuals in the U.S. The facebook page established to support Phil has over 1.3 million “likes” in the last 24 hours and increasing at a astonishing rate of about a 1000 per minute.

  2. Name withheld says:

First of all, your last assertion isn’t true. Similar assertions have been made about blacks, women, Jews, Catholics, the mentally challenged, etc., and it has almost never been true in those cases, either. I suspect you’re crying inside over the fact that a certain duck-tard blathering graphically obscene misconceptions to the public was – – go figure – – considered bad for business by his employer? Who knows, maybe you thought the duck-tard proved himself to be grandly heterosexual, and that real men prove their masculinity by persecuting gays. Well, if you like your obsession with gays, you can keep your obsession with gays. I prefer to ignore them – – I live and let live – – and I spend my time thinking about women instead. But good luck with that.

    • You are a typically irrational anti-free speech thought Nazi.

      • Name withheld says:

“Free speech” refers to First Amendment constraints on government, not some sort of universal right. If a duck-tard comes to my house and speaks crudely and offensively about human genitalia, I have the right to kick him off my property. The Constitution does not empower government to protect free speech. It forbids to government the power to abridge free speech. And to your other point, please have any thoughts you wish. Just realize there might be objections if you publish them, and those objections won’t all come from Nazis. Nor will they all be irrational.

        • gator69 says:

‘Vagina’ and ‘anus’ are not crude words, that is the terminology that doctors use. And since when is an anus genitalia? 😆

        • Traitor In Chief says:

The hottest show on cable is “bad for business”?

Terminating the hottest show on cable is “good” for business?

          argument FAIL

        • Colorado Wellington says:

“Free speech” refers to First Amendment constraints on government, not some sort of universal right.

No, it doesn’t. It refers to one of the universal concepts of a free society, as in Camille Paglia’s statement on this controversy: “People have right to free speech, to be homophobic or to support homosexuality.”

“… those objections won’t all come from Nazis.

Maybe, but most of them will. Camille Paglia calls the reaction “utterly fascist & utterly Stalinist”.

  3. gator69 says:

“But say one disparaging thing about gays, and your career is over.”

Unless you are a leftist darling.

    • Ivan says:

Unless you are a leftist darling.
In which case you are probably queer anyway. It’s a pre-requisite for getting into the media these days.

  4. B.C. says:

To all of the butt-hurt gays out there… “Suck it up, Tinker Bell!”. A&E just lost the goose duck that laid the golden egg. The Duck Commander team will just cancel any future contracts with A&E and sell the rights to their show to the highest bidder, which will just make them that much richer and cause Leftardian heads to explode at an even faster and more furious rate. Also, all of the free publicity from the National Socialists Workers’s Party members in the Lamestream Media is just going to make that many more people who have never been keen on watching the show, want to tune in, just to see what the fuss is all about and piss off said National Socialists. Popcorn sales are going to go through the roof! Get yours now, before the shelves are stripped bare!

  5. Pathway says:

Apparently, Glenn Beck is interested in signing them to a contract with The Blaze. Look what happened to Chick Filet when they were attacked by the crypo-nazis. Their sales went through the roof. To all you leftist out there, just keep it up. You are good for business.

  6. There’s a lot of immaturity on both sides of the gay issue–on both sides of every issue now. (I have been watching a lot of Hallmark Channel movies, in the last few years, and I’ve come to the whimsical conclusion that women are gay, though, I hasten to add, mentally–which is actually more fundamentally gay–not sexually.) But this post mixes up Left vs. Right with gay vs. straight, adding to the confusion of all those immature, dogma-bound minds out there right now. It’s guaranteed to provoke knee-jerk reactions, which is all that Robinson–that’s the “Duck Dynasty” man’s name, isn’t it?–himself has, in this matter…plus his “mountain man” beard (not to mention those of his fellows), unnecessarily exaggerated, tells me his beliefs are basically those of a cult, with an unhealthy obsession with the long beard…Muslims, and many cultures worldwide, also have such a fetish, which is ancient and traditional, and whose root in pre-history I know; but it really means that beard obsession was developed to tie men to religious ritual and dogma, in fact, to mimic the appearance of the “high gods”, especially the All-Father…religiously tended beards are cargo-cult ritual, that stunt men’s minds, nothing more…and it looks gay to me, so I would say his remarks fall under the category of “the pot calling the kettle black”–in short, he’s wierd, so who is he to talk about others? Of course he has the right to be an ass, but his employers have the right to express themselves too, and they have. Get over it; life is hard and then you die (or any other adage expressing acceptance of fate’s decree), remember? I just hope he learns from this to “judge not, lest ye be judged”, because he’s just another silly fool who takes himself too seriously (as are those who are getting down on him).

    • …and those who are defending him so emotionally, so dogmatically.

      • gator69 says:

Harry, had you read the full dialogue, you would have heard Phil say that he does not judge others. And he also said he loves his fellow man, no matter the persuasion. He only answered the question regarding us personal belief, based upon Biblical teaching. And sometimes a beard is just a beard. 😉

      • B.C. says:

        Harry,

Phil Robertson has another son who isn’t featured on the show very often… That son is a full-time pastor and doesn’t have a beard. The beard that they all wear is simply an aspect of the culture of the area that they happen to live in. I could give two shi’ites about what his beliefs are, but the attacks on his Constutionally-guaranteed freedom of religion/though after he honestly answered a direct, loaded question from a Leftist “journalist” is what pisses me off, if not most of the people defending him. If they don’t like the answer that the know is coming, then don’t ask the question. (But, that wouldn’t have fit their agenda, so they asked the question anyway.)

All in all, it’s a tempest in a teapot and we have much more important things to be worrying about than what a character on a “reality” show has to say about a tiny, vocal, hate-filled, intolerant minority and their supporters.

        • Robert Gyurik says:

Not really a tempest in a teapot—rather a bellwether of the decay of our society into totalitarianism. George Orwell amazingly depicted this, calling it “crimethink”. We have gone over the cliff and are looking downward. Let’s hope there emerge more “Duckies” out there to provide us some small parachutes, to at least lessen the upcoming impact.

BTW, he was not expressing HIS views. He was quoting the Bible. I guess Fahrenheit 451 is next for us?

Notable line from Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451:

“Remember the firemen are rarely necessary. The public stopped reading of its own accord. You firemen provide a circus now and then at which buildings are set off and crowds gather for the pretty blaze, but its a small sideshow indeed, and hardly necessary to keep things in line. So few want to be rebels anymore. And out of those few, most, like myself, scare easily.”

  7. Apparently, we are not even allowed to be indifferent to the issue. One must be actively and enthusiastically for it or it is a hate crime punishable by unemployment or banishment from society. The apparent justification is that there is an offense is taken by the presumed victim. This without regard to the offense we take from the notion that we must be limited and punished for simply having and expressing an opinion.

What ever happened to live and let live? If I and others rights are not violated then do what ever thing you want to do. I can think it moral, immoral, stupid, brilliant, evil, or irrelevant without one iota of rights violation against you. Even speaking my mind on the matter violates no right you hold. I expect even holding this idea will soon be considered a hate crime .

Our right to exist is rapidly becoming subject to the whim of others who feel themselves victims of any of a myriad of imagined offenses. They come from their position of weakness and expect that fact alone is sufficient to bind everyone else to eternal slavery to THEIR whims. The group who is to be considered *The Victim* changes without notice and is determined by an unnamed and unaccountable elite. It is a self chosen elite who wish to control all the rest of us at our expense. Even that self chosen elite changes with the shimmering leaves on the trees. Yet we are somehow supposed to be responsible for their ephemeral feelings while they are not to be held responsible for anything.

He who is free, never submits. He who submits, was never free. Stay free.

    • Robert Gyurik says:

      Correct, Lionell:

Again from 451, Captain Beatty, trying to convince Montag of the danger of free thought:

“Not everyone born free and equal, as the Constitution says, but everyone made equal. Each man the image of every other; then all are happy, for there are no mountains to make them cower, to judge themselves against.”

    • tom0mason says:

Radical idea of our times – “live and let live”. Like that other one “do as you would be done by”. Would be nice if it ever happened.

  8. Traitor In Chief says:

When Glenn Beck left Fox, he went from a few million to a hundred million in income almost instantly. If he can get the Dynasty to come over, and others who are like minded, his project will only become more successful.
