The Mysterious GISS Mid-1960’s Pivot Point

NASA tampers with data around a mysterious mid 1960’s pivot point. Temperatures from before 1965 keep getting colder, and temperatures after 1965 keep getting warmer, with successive versions of GISS data.

The 1997 version disappeared from the web archive around January 1, right after I first published the results. It now comes up a blank page. Nothing suspicious about that. Certain nothing suspicious about the past repeatedly getting colder, and the present repeatedly getting warmer.

  1. A few years ago (prior to the release of BEST and Climategate), the pivot point was around 1971. They’ve been shifting the pivot deeper into the past, perhaps because of the “disappointing” temperatures of current times.
