IF both parties loved this country more than their political power…
IF the media were truly committed to exposing truth…
IF we didn’t have a society that has itself lost much of its sense of citizenship and public integrity…
IF we had people willing to come forth and tell what they know even at risk to their public careers…
THEN perhaps it could happen.
But none of those conditions exist now, so it will not.

I have a relative who is (except for his politics) a very bright, kind, guy. When ever I mention anything at all that is outside his political comfort zone, his response is almost always, “You can’t believe that! That can’t be true! If that were true, every journalist, every newscaster in the country, would be investigating that so that they could make a name for themselves in the news business! They would win a Pulitzer Prize!”
Even after years of hearing it, I remain stunned when he says that stuff. You know, and I know, that the mainstream media is not to be trusted. Their professional lapses have become so patently obvious that I literally do not understand how any literate person could fail to notice — and yet there are those among us who cannot see it. (And yes, he is very “Progressive.” And yes, he really is very bright about things other than politics.)
@Jason – I use to believe as your relative did. But reality proved me wrong too many times.
If Biden was not next in line. This is one situation where I envy the British parliamentary system. When the party in power loses the confidence of the voters, the ruling party is kicked out. In the US we still have to put up with the same idiots even if impeachment is successful.

The same President who gave us the EPA by executive order, OSHA, opened the US market to strengthen Mao’s Communist China, and broke the Bretton Woods agreement leading to massive devaluation of the dollar.
But he also separated the Soviet and Chinese communist block.
