It includes ice in the Greenland Sea and other don’t care places outside of the Arctic Basin.
Have I got this straight? You’re saying CT area includes the Greenland Sea, whereas DMI extent doesn’t?
Why don’t you care about “places outside of the Arctic Basin”? I seem to recall you getting excited about the amount of ice on the Great Lakes not so very long ago.
DMI is measuring extent, and CT is measuring area. My interest is 30+% concentration ice in the Arctic basin which I can do direct comparisons on vs. satellite generated maps.

NORSEX is a few days average, it is showing 2014 above 2013 by ~ 500,000 km2 and an important slower melting in the last few updates, similar to 2013.
I believe the halt of ice melting shown by DMI will appear in NORSEX if it persists for a few more days.

I have, you get a reply saying they changed their minds and it’s going to happen at some future date, and they are refining their models all the time (BBC talk which means if it doesn’t look likely then they’ll move the date out again)

I just read an article a couple days ago that says you can’t trust your lying eyes. Apparently the ice boffins are changing the way they measure sea ice and polar ice and they now can prove the ice has been declining. This just after I read that they are now “adjusting” the satellite record because it does not agree with the land (thermometer) “adjusted” data. Of course the satellites MUST be wrong.
I think the climate ‘grounds keepers’ just need to put the goalposts on wheels to make it easier to move them about as needed.
Fascinating indeed that the measurement methods change so frequently in a “settled science”……..

Obscene gestures toward climate scientists? That sounds like a threat to me. We may not want to put the Arctic in prison, but we should at least make sure they are not allowed to speak freely.
It looks as though if it gets cold as predicted the ice could level off but there must be warmer water as well causing melting. About half the melting most years occurs after August 1st even though temperatures start heading down. Even last year 1/3 of the melt occurred after Aug. 1. So I expect something similar to happen this year but the minimum may be higher than last year’s minimum.
OTOH, if you extrapolate linearly the present trend of the ice in the DMI graph the line will reach the average black curve *almost at right angle*.
This is quite remarkable, don’t you think? The DMI graph in fact shows the present Arctic ice trend as slightly increasing.
I’m most curious to see how the trend will evolve in August.
My “first approximation” guess is that it will follow 2013, but slightly above, and- as Steve has said repeatedly here- reach ~ 2006 levels at the end of the summer melt.
Yes, but I have seen it look like that in past years and it never happens. In fact, in many years if you look at the DMI graph, it will have “doglegs” one direction or another but as you see it always has a similar shape. That’s what I meant by “it looks as though it could level off” – that it looks as though if you extrapolate it will be a right angle. But, I don’t think that will happen – as much fun as that would be it the ice recovered completely in two years after all the talk about death spirals, etc.
Just a final note: the Arctic ice in the average DMI curve shows maximum melting rate exactly at this time of the year, while this year’s trend is flat-lined or even a little increasing. How remarkable is that!
It is remarkable. I hope it goes flat. Just to finally shut up some of the doomsday prophets. But in reality, it is sad that we are reduced to rooting for ice and cold thanks to these morons.
The warmist need to get tough on sea ice, get tougher on the causes of sea ice.
Throw the book at sea ice as this is the thin edge of the wedge, and legislative action must start immediately, if not sooner.

Perhaps some Norse mariners of the Medieval Warm Period found and used the Passage, which in their time was passable (I don’t say without danger). They must have kept what they found a trade secret, but enough leaked out to fire the imaginations of later generations.

I seem to recall that there was a little accident with that thing last year and “as a result” the 2013 Arctic ice melt season was quite a disappointment to the CAGW groupies. The 2013 Northwest Passage Rowing / Dragging team had great difficulties as there was far, far more ice than every single one of their climate simulation models had predicted.
My memory fails me as to the exact cause of Reggie’s blowtorch malfunction. I seem to recall a post referencing a fudge packing problem of some kind. Whether that meant that there was fudge in the Brawndo fuel, or fudge in a seal or merely a failure to melt, I was never clear as to the exact cause of the failure of the Ice Armageddon blowtorch to function.
Who knows, maybe Reggie blew a seal!!

I am merely trying to understand your confusing (to me at least) explanations of the significance of the graph you keep on posting. Whatever is “happening in the Arctic” it certainly isn’t a “spectacular recovery of Arctic sea ice”. CT Area is still falling fast, and will post another decline of around 150 thousand square kilometers when they eventually get around to updating it.

DMI has both a 15% graphic and their older 30% graphic that they still plot. The 30% also masks out coastal areas. The 30% is a better measure of the ice cap but Tony still periodically shows the 15% for variety. They are both accessible at DMI from the same page with one click to go back and forth. It is not difficult. Wait a week and many questions will be answered Jim as ice graphs are updated and the temperatures are forecast to drop. But there will still be some melting due to warm waters. It is Arctic summer after all.
Maybe Snow White can help Reggie get his “blowtorch” straightened out……
