For Most Of Earth’s History, The Poles Were Very Warm

I’d buy that “for most of Earth’s PAST…” but the human record is much shorter, like between 5000 and 10,000 years. Was Earth’s climate warmer during that period 5000 or 10,000 years in the past? What’s more, the historical records do not cover ALL of Planet Earth. North America has scanty records until about five centuries ago.
“Natural history” is an oxymoron–there is only human history and the past. Human history doesn’t predate the development of human writing, but we humans do make up stuff about the past, our best guess of what happened. History is eyewitness–“natural history” is forensic science.
I think you mean “past.” The “history” thing isn’t quite as clear.
And trees could grow higher.

But note that the article predates the discovery of plate tectonics / continental drift.
