Odysseus was punished by the gods for believing he was in control. But even he wasn’t arrogant enough to believe he controlled the climate.
Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
The power, and the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.

Thank you for a reminder of the foolishness of thinking mankind controls Earth’s climate.
“Control” is illusion.
Our entire scientific knowledge has merely 400 years of existence.
How could that be the final answer for the mysteries of an *infinite* Universe? (in spite of what general relativity says…)
OTOH, arrogant minds always find a way to reduce everything to their limited level, we must acknowledge that too.
Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.
Well then Hansen et al must be pretty pissed.
I believe “mad” in this case refers to insane – unless you meant the UK version of “pissed” which would be drunk – drunk with “power” that he imagines he has – which is a form of madness, I suppose
Is arrogance perhaps the worst type of madness?
Against stupidity the gods themselves contend in vain – Friedrich von Schiller
It is all good, but the part about “give us our daily bread” is not needed.
If you believe, there isn’t any need to ask for much, other than a slice of his wisdom and direction to carry on and of course thanks, as everything else falls into place…
But biblically speaking “bread” can also have exactly the connotation you speak of.
To which episode in THE ODYSSEY are you alluding?
AMEN!
Doubt Odysseus ever recited the Lord’s Prayer.
