People are getting stuck in the ice in 2014, but the Northwest Passage was open in 1904.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

Amundsen must have been using one of those diesel guzzling, carbon emitting boats that melted ice and opened a path right in front of his very eyes. What an anti-environmentalist!!! (wink)

I think the cognoscenti understand these manifestations are linked to the AGW phenomenon – there can be no doubt – even the great and prophetic Ivan Velikovsky suggested this as an outcome i.e. small dips in cold bring on large and deadly heat in the fullness of time. To doubt consensus climatologists remains as criminal as dismissing alchemy or astrology – these people need to be gaoled to ensure they understand the meaning of intellectual discourse and freedom.
He had a blowtorch attached to the front of this ship.
Amundson must have had a much bigger blowtorch than Reiggie’s tiny one.
Still trying to discern just how Amundsen’s tale here of traversing the Northwest Passage in 1907 results in the headline “More Arctic Sea Ice Than 110 Years Ago”. He made no statements regarding the extent of the sea ice in general, and also didn’t mention what route he took on his “Northwest Passage”. There are a number of straits and passages in the archipelago that he could have taken, and many of them are, and have always been, ice-free at times during the year. So the fact he was able to make the passage says absolutely nothing about relative sea ice extent then vs. now.
It also matters what type of vessel he was using. There is a “NW Passage” open in the arctic every year. It’s just too shallow or narrow to be of any use to large ocean-going vessels, which have to use the McClure Strait or others to the north, which tend to be full of ice almost year-round. Or they USED to be, not sure what the status is today.
