Many trillions of tons of snow fall on Antarctica and Greenland every winter. All of that has to return to the sea.
Alarmists stand at the terminus of glaciers, take pictures of glaciers calving – and then publish them in order to get their useful idiots in the press hysterical.
What do these geniuses think the snow is supposed to do? Pile up into the stratosphere?
They are Santa’s little helpers! 🙂
and here is confirmation it does exactly that, not that you needed it . http://www.antarctica.ac.uk/about_antarctica/geography/weather/snow.php
Calving? You mean melting. All that liquid water slides into the ocean and freezes into sea ice as soon as it gets there.
The ice in the glacier is under pressure which causes it to become elastic and flow – when the glacial ice flows out into the sea.chunks break off and form icebergs. That is the calving.
Most folks have little knowledge of science and any picture of a bit of ice breaking off is interpreted as the glaciers melting away.
Re: marque2 (Jul 2 23:23),
If I’m not mistaken, Morgan is referring to this Chris Crawford illuminating insight:

Ah yes, Chris Crawford, my favorite climate genius.
Yeah, growing glaciers calve, melting glaciers trickle.
It’s supposed to build up forever until the rest of the planet doesn’t have any water or the earth wobbles on its axis. Now that would be climate change!
I remember they got the Indians into a flap because the Ganges river feeds from glacial melt so they reasoned that with global warming the glaciers would recede and this would be a threat to India’s main water supply.
Because, err, glaciers manufacture water internally as everyone knows 😉
Tel at 9:46 pm beat me to it.
Yes, one of the many lies repeated over and over again, is how when the glaciers disappear, and they are disappearing, the rivers in those now glacierless valleys will run dry. What a croc! It will still rain and snow in those valleys and the rivers as a result will still flow. No one it seems ever questions the claim.
I’m at a total loss why the Amazon has any water at all.
+1
Right at the South Pole the snow is just piling up. There it already is half way to the stratosphere in winter as at that time there the stratosphere drops to within 6 km of sea level.
And where do they think icebergs come from?
What was the level of “warming” in the Arctic in 1912?
The day I start worrying about climate change is the day the glaciers STOP melting.
You don’t need to worry about climate change.
However, you should be very, very worried about what the policies related “CAGW” are doing and will do to our country.
I live by a coal-powered plant. We are already having electrical grid problems, but in accordance with current policies, the plant is scheduled to be shut down.
By the time our politicians are forced to admit that we have a problem, it will be too late to turn back.
The fix, in my area alone, will take 10-20 years, and will likely cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
According to the CAGW scare mongers: “We are doing this for our grandchildren.”
Gee thanks, grandpa.
I’ll wager they are condensing the electric generation business into fewer hands. Then even existing regulation prevents new entries.
In gasoline refining big oil bought up and closed down many independent refineries leaving only their massive centralized operations. This allowed them to increase margins and now when one has to have the pipes cleaned or something gas prices spike when in a normal business competition would fill the void. And since regulation makes it economically non-viable to build a new refinery, they have the business locked up.
one thing is for sure, there is a whole better level of sarcasm and wit on this blog than any other i have visited recently, thanks for the laughs .
Here here. Keeps me coming back.
Gravity happens.
Gravity sucks.

Just found this thanks the Jerry Doyle radio talk show today having one of the astronauts as a guest speaker, did not catch his name. Got in on the tail end of the interview. Sounds right down the alley of this blog …..
Probably Harrison Schmitt, one of the Apollo astronauts (with a PhD from Harvard in geology) who has been pretty outspoken lately. But don’t listen to him, he probably thinks the moon landings were faked…
According to CAGW theory, the cold is definitely not going to the bottom of the ocean. Other than that, I can’t help you.

It’s no different than your frickin ice maker in your freezer overflowing with ice cubes and they fall on the floor. The cubes gotta go somewhere!
So when glaciers recede away from the sea back up into the mountains, that’s global warming.
And when glaciers come to the edge and fall into the sea that’s global warming too.
Okay, got it.
Makes perfect sense.
When the Great Lakes freeze that’s certainly global warming, because of a whole lot of science stuff you just couldn’t understand (actually, no else understands it either).
Any drought is global warming, and so is every flood. Hurricanes are global warming, especially when there aren’t any.
Doesn’t happen just there – look at snowfall on Mt. Everest. The area called the Khumbu Icefall is an icefall at the head of the Khumbu Glacier that is always moving and one of the most dangerous areas on the mountain to climb because of the ice calving. This ice the breaks off and ends up melting – which has been happening for all recorded history. The problem is we no longer teach real science in the schools so they will believe anything put in front of them.
Over at Spaceweather.com, folks who ought to know a thing or two about solar control of our weather cycles, I was shocked yesterday to see a “global warming is real” statement within their coverage of the Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 satellite launch on Wednesday. Just now I went there for a link to the article before commenting here, and found any mention of global warming had been edited out in the last 24 hours. Looks like someone straightened them out…….. was that you, Steven Goddard?
