‘The Met Office are saying that despite the recent concerns about the science, they are very sure about the underlying science. ‘They tell us there is a 50-50 chance we will get a 2C rise. If we pull our finger out we could prevent us moving beyond 2C but we have to act pretty soon‘.
A 2C rise could mean summers in the UK reaching 38C – a climate similar to southern France.
That kind of temperature rise would see the traditional summer deep borders full of herbaceous perennials such as lupins and delphiniums replaced with Mediterranean plans.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

ooo… super secret post….. Not hiding a hockey stick are ya….
I have a hard time believing southern france is only 2 degrees warmer than England
Off topic, but speaking of greenhouse gases. Have you seen this from Aug 29th. Sonic boom from volcano eruption…. Very cool..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUREX8aFbMs
That’s a Wilson Cloud and it’s the trailing edge of the pressure wave from the explosion. It’s not transonic and is simply water condensing out of the air in that briefly created low pressure zone. You see the same thing on the trailing edges of aircraft control surfaces in air with high humidity. The best examples are when you see fighter aircraft pull up quickly and the pressure drop on the upper wing surface makes these cool looking pressure clouds. This link should be to some pics of the Blue Angels and you can see the same effect in the low pressure zones around the airframe while in flight.

Yes but I don’t think the story was speaking of the cloud. Which the camera guy almost completely missed btw. It was the boom. But either way I found it very cool. Wondering what it was like on that one container ship though. I’m thinking they may need a resupply of toiletry and under garments…
Speaking of “…. need a resupply of toiletry and under garments…”
A couple weeks ago we were in Virgina Beach buying a new horse. We did not realize we were next door to Naval Air Station Oceana.
Try standing holding a horse you just laid eyes on for the first time when a bunch of those babies take off and fly by at tree level….
The noise makes your ears ring for the next hour and I think I lost ten years of my life.
We bought the horse. Anything that will put up with THAT is bomb proof.
From the video: explosion at :12, sound arrives at :24, so 12 seconds elapsed; speed of sound ~1100 ft/S (depends on temperature, humidity &c), so distance was about 13,200 ft = 2.5 miles. Great timing on the part of the photographer.
WINNIPEG…did you hear that! -38 instead of -40C!!!
Funny. Our median yearly temperature never rises above 0.
I live in said part of France. In 2003 we had 3 months of temps 35°c or over. This year NO days over 35 °C. Our average day max temps are 5°C higher than southern/Eastern UK.
Imagine what it would do for the UK wine!
Scotland will narrowly escape this climate nightmare and stay cold if the referendum passes next Thursday. The Scots are ready:
Eskimo Scots would obviously thrive in a colder Scotland. They have not taken a position yet but the Poles are in:
We must keep Scotland cold!! The world cannot lose that lager!!
I reckon I might be able to suffer the horror of South of France clime here in SE England. 🙂
But with the bozos touting this still, while there’s every possibility we’re heading in the opposite direction, some days I have to shake my head & look around to make sure I’m not down the rabbit hole.
Good news, maybe, from the EU : the drunk Juncker looks like he wants to neuter the Greenies :

WWF are well pissed off. 🙂
Can it be, Batman ?
National Trust campaign highlights how gardens will look if global warming brings Mediterranean weather to Britain
Free exotic plants and gardeners for everyone!!!!
Sounds lovely. UK weather like s France. What a shame it’s the met office prediction they are always wrong.
Looks nice to me.
I was thinking exactly the same thing. It would be awesome.
Seems to be a push of future warming scenarios recently. Proving only that humans have great imagination, and doing nothing to prove trace CO2 will cause problem warming.

It means the DemiRats are running scared about the next election and trying to deflect attention away from Obummercare and the rest of the Obummer flubs. All the DemiRats have left is the Gore Bull Warbling Ecoscare and Mother Nature is stomping hard on that.
If we get a really nasty winter with a bunch more coal plants shutdown there is going to be a major reaction from the middle-of-the-roaders who swing elections either this November or in 2016 or both.
It depends on the weather and on how many coal plants are shut and when. Coal generates ~40% of the electric in the USA.
Over half the plant closures will happen in 2014 and 2015. Most shuttered plants are east of the Mississippi River, aka in Progressiveville. About 10% of the coal capacity is going down permanently. That does not include down time (18 months) for retrofitting to meet mercury regs. that takes out another 1/3 or about another 10%. Some of the nuclear plants are also going to be closed. Reports indicated the grid was strained to the max last winter and so were Natural gas supplies. Another bad winter with more closures and bets are you will see brownouts/blackouts.
The expectation by the EPA was their Mercury Ruling would only shutter 9.5 GW. Instead more than 34 gigawatts (GW) of electrical generating capacity are now set to retire. The Smart Meters to selectively turn off smart appliances are not yet in place either. Natural gas was supposed to replace coal according to the Shell/Enron/BP master plan but gas pipelines and gas fracking is getting NIMBYed. OOPS, Obummer has hit another SNAFU but this one, if we have another cold winter, could wakeup a lot of the useful idiot progressives who never had their hearts in hardcore die hard Totalitarian Marxism.

Be sure to buy your wood burning stove before the EPA establishes controls on emissions. Whoops they already did.
I thought the basic function of the smart meter was to turn off the electric. They replaced the meter here with one. There are no smart appliances in the house.
I went to see about a wood pellet stove, but it requires electricity to run. Looks like I’ll get a couple of cords of firewood for the fireplace…. just in case. And as a last resort, at least this year, I’ll go visit the property down south. I worked upstate NY back in the 1990’s when they had that wonderful ice storm. It brought down the power lines. Things you take for granted just aren’t there. I didn’t live there, drove out of the area where there was power after work, and life was miserable. I felt really bad for the people who couldn’t leave. I can’t imagine life with rolling brownouts in January.
“The expectation by the EPA was their Mercury Ruling would only shutter 9.5 GW.”
A typical agency lowball number to hide the future impacts.
And of course, mercury is their Holy Grail of pollutants (although CO2 is their new baby).
I worked for a state Environmental agency in the 90’s when the mercury limits were greatly lowered, based on a cherry-picked study (a French one I believe).
It’s hard to believe that the permissible limits for most pollutants was initially set conservatively low, by orders of magnitude, with the understanding that the limits would be updated as better studies showed more accurate limits based on health impacts.
True DEQ story:
In a meeting between our regulating agency and applicants from industry, the following conversation took place:
“… and our wastewater and stormwater discharges will all at a pH of 7 before we release them.”
A Deputy Secretary of the Agency official emphatically struck the table with her fist and said;
“That’s not good enough, if you can lower it to 7, you can lower it to zero.”
Stunned silence followed.
Affirmative action/ political nepotism in action.
Absolute stupidity!
I believe it. I will say, here, again for those who’ve heard me say it. Current emission limits could be rolled back to 1990 limits and no one would be able to tell the difference.
Dose and route of a specified chemical makes the medicine. Dose and route make the poison. In a way, I blame homeopathic reasoning combined with the ‘precautionary principle (for everything except tyranny)’ for this kind of Linear No-Threshold kind of thinking. Okay, there can be accumulation, but there is also adaptation; with both built into the blueprint to be opened when needed.
Who/what am I going to believe? Despotic Marxists or my own ‘lying’ eyes backed by knowledge of the laws of chemistry. 😛
Well I sure hope someone wakes up. I keep telling people what is going to happen and only the checkout lady in the grocery store has told me, ” I am just putting on layers”. (of clothes ). Everyone else continues to tiptoe through the tulips.
Then they can grow grapes again like in the middle ages.
Maybe, but wine will be forbidden if they don’t produce a Charles Martel …
I hate to break the bad news to that idiot…..but every plant he has in the 4 degree/last picture…..is grown in the UK now
Perfect climate for an Arabic-speaking country.
OUCH!

That picture is quite old. I don’t remember the date. Maybe 1998/9
….all of those plants have always been grown in the UK

The bougainvillea in the lower foreground probably still wouldn’t make thru the winter unless it has help.
I’m referring to the artist’s conception above.
it’s in a pot……….
Hey, all those Pommies won’t need to holiday in the south of France any more.
Think of the economic saving. !
Well, the palms and fruit trees look about right for Future England, but where are the minarets in the background?
Did you see the wind turbines in the background?
And the similarities will not end with climate. England is already surrendering, in the French tradition, to invading hordes.
A salaam alaikum!
That’s a really big “if” in the headline. The Brits should really worry about what London will look like if they don’t do something about Muslim immigration and Sharia Law settling in.
Sooner rather than later perhaps?
