OK, sorry for the totally dumb layman question here, but which year WAS the warmest?

Also, IIRC, didn’t Hansen/GISS change the ‘global average’ temperature sometime in the early 2000’s from 15°C or 14.5°C or similar?
The super El Nino of 1977-1978 produced the warmist year ever, that is why Steve prefers the satellite data.
Here is the back-up evidence that shows the satellite data is the more reasonable information.
#1. NASA shows there has been a change in the distribution of wavelengths in the energy spectrum coming from the sun. The visible to EUV wavelengths can change from 1% to 100% at the EUV end of the spectrum.

There is also a UV/Ozone/wind ===> wind driven Antarctic circumpolar current ==> Humboldt Current ===> El Niño connection
If you look at this Sea Surface Temperature map it has a good image of the tongue of cold water from the Antarctic Circumpolar Current just before Drake Passage, headed up the coast of South America to Galapagos. This is the Humboldt Current. The presents, absense and strength of this current will help determine wether there is an El Niño, El Nina or El Niño Modoki

One could almost hope that this is the first summer the snow didn’t melt for New England. It might make a difference in the 2016 elections.
Clearly the statistic of an “average” temperature across disparate locations is meaningless. Not only that but the variability of temperatures within a region completely swamps any “systemic trend” whether that trend is named “climate change” or “global warming”. Of course knowing this will not stop the “experts” from pretending otherwise.

Well my guess is that the Blue Bloods are just thinking that what is happening is the “C” in CAGW.
You easterners are sure selfish with your winter, hogging all of it, we could use a little of it going into march . We have had no winter in northeast wyoming since the first of november . Just send use some moisture none of that global warming cold stuff you people seem to enjoy so much.
The argument gets myopic when claims of “hottest ever” are for small areas when everyone else in the world is feeling cold. if the temperature of the world remains unchanged using UAH or RSS, then any claim to any day, or month being the hottest is just a load of crap.
The North American West Coast is the world.
The rest of us are nobody. Seriously. Warm there=entire planet. Cold on half the planet=local temporary weather.

I wouldn’t bet that NCDC won’t do exactly that.
Alarmists might swallow it, they think that when they are not believed that all they need is “better communication”. But you can only convince a sceptic if you give them the data.
