WASHINGTON — Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky has begun an aggressive campaign to block President Obama’s climate change agenda in statehouses and courtrooms across the country, arenas far beyond Mr. McConnell’s official reach and authority.
The campaign of Mr. McConnell, the Senate majority leader, is aimed at stopping a set of Environmental Protection Agency regulations requiring states to reduce carbon pollution from coal-fired power plants, the nation’s largest source of greenhouse gas emissions.
To make his case, Mr. McConnell is also relying on a network of powerful allies with national influence and roots in Kentucky or the coal industry. Within that network is Laurence H. Tribe, a highly regarded scholar of constitutional law at Harvard Law School and a former mentor of Mr. Obama’s.
Mr. Tribe likened Mr. Obama’s climate change rules to “burning the Constitution.”

What is the other option again?
Obama signs executive order to cut federal emissions by 40%…….

Obama is evil incarnate, and Republicans are neutered to stop his evil.
Why is McConnell pushing for something he has no control of, when he completely drops the ball where he specifically has the authority?
Because he cannot get any Democrats to buck Obama, I assume democrats understand if they cross Obama they will end up in jail. It pretty simple to put a Democrat in jail since most of the are very dirty and have boat loads of dirty laundry. The reason that not true for Republicans id with them the press is always giving a Republican an anal exam, yet if a Democrat all the press can do is kiss the Dems ass, to bad you to stupid to understand that.
I don’t think it is me that is too stupid. If he can not get Democrats, who have to run for election again at some point, to oppose Obama, he’s a failure. The electorate sent a huge signal in November and he should be able to pressure Democrats who aren’t in slam dunk states. They will have to answer for what Obama does in the next 2 years, not the guy who never has to run again.
This is an intriguing development. Is it real or just more play acting to make the public believe there are two opposing political parties?
McConnell is all talk, and all about himself. Rather than backing the House Republicans when they were trying to force concessions from Obama on the budget negotiations two Novembers ago, he stabbed them in the back.
He could have either backed them, by helping explain what the real issues were, or even just kept his mouth shut. But he, plus McCain and a few others, parroted the Democrat’s view that since they didn’t have the votes, they should all just cave. No attempt to explain anything and let the public opinion force Democrats to their side. All his bluster about tearing out Obamcare root and stalk or however he said it, turned into, oh we don’t have the votes, so why raise a fuss? This is more of the same.
He’s majority leader of the Senate, yet he’s not willing to do anything where he actually has power. But next election, he’ll get to say to the people of Kentucky, oh I tried getting your jobs back.
“But next election, he’ll get to say to the people of Kentucky, oh I tried getting your jobs back.”
I doubt the 73 year-old, who was sworn in on Jan. 3 for another 6-year term, will have a “next election.”
Wow, he’s old. Why can’t they all just retire in their 60’s?
Dianne Feinstein is currently the oldest at almost 82 years old.
“As of March 20, 2015, 5 senators are in their 80s, 18 are in their 70s, 32 are in their 60s, 30 are in their 50s, 14 are in their 40s, and 1 is in his 30s.”

He’s doing what the people of his State hired him to do. Look after the interests of Kentucky and that means supporting coal. It’s just a bonus that he also happens to be supporting the real scientific data regarding climate.
Even when both chambers in congress were controlled by Democrats in 2010, Obama was unable to get them to pass these very same actions he is now commanding to be done by his EPA. Even the EPA itself can’t demonstrate the veracity of the so-called science they are using as a shield to exert their assumed authority. I think it is great that McConnell is trying to find ways to resist these illegal actions by appealing to the states to also push back. I’m sure the fact he is from a state heavily dependent on employment in the coal industry also provides an impetus. Obama usurps his constitutional authority now as a matter of routine, so why shouldn’t congress also do the same? The rule of law now only seems to apply to who Obama says it does, and it certainly doesn’t apply to him.
And to hell with all endangered species.
The chairman of the House Committee on Natural Resources confronted U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe on the issue at a budget hearing Thursday. Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Utah, said the Fish and Wildlife Service is required to formally consult on any plan that could pose problems for an endangered species.
After Ashe acknowledged under questioning that the Fish and Wildlife Service did not consult with the EPA on the power plant rules, Bishop displayed in the committee room a photo of manatees in the Big Bend discharge canal, and he noted it is “considered a primary warm-water site for the manatees.”
“So if EPA regulations cause this primary warm-water site to close down or substantially alter its operations, then it would adversely affect the manatee,” Bishop said. “Would that be something about which you think you need to consult with the EPA?”
Ashe agreed there would need for consultation “because there is a very direct and obvious impact and relationship between that water discharge and those manatees.”
It’s not the first time Republican lawmakers have linked the power plant rule to endangered species. Three senators last year suggested the Fish and Wildlife Service needed to consult on what the plan would do to species such as the California condor, which could be killed by wind turbines if there is a shift from coal to wind power. The EPA rejected that suggestion.

Well, I wonder how many BTUs a 230 year old piece of parchment can provide?
If we followed the words on it and their meaning, as many as we want or need according to how hard we wish to work to acquire them. And government would not have 95% of the control over us (or our energy) they’ve currently usurped.
What you get out of these things is pretty close to what you put into them.
