The Little Ice Age was a period from about 1550 to 1850 when the world experienced relatively cooler temperatures compared to the present. Subsequently, until about 1940, glaciers around the world retreated as the climate warmed substantially. Glacial retreat slowed and even reversed temporarily, in many cases, between 1950 and 1980 as global temperatures cooled slightly.

It is difficult to overstate how stupid this line of thinking is.
They claim that glaciers melted as the climate warmed rapidly from 1850 to 1940, but then a slight cooling after 1940 caused glaciers to advance. The theory they are promoting is that the freezing point of water is controlled by whether temperatures are increasing, or decreasing – not the absolute temperature. That is just plain idiotic.
Humans surpassed this level of ignorance hundreds of years ago, until brain-dead climate science became prominent. These really are the world’s stupidest people.
Somehow CO2 has a cooling effect on high altitudes.

Me thinks it is just an excuse to climb down and remove the crazy non-science that’s been stuffed in the article by the likes of W.M.Valdemort.

Glacier melting is delayed by 50 or more years to the current temperature. So they are talking complete BS
I think glacial advance/retreat is also largely a function of precipitation in the form of snow.
Glacial retreat is not evidence of current warming. Global temperatures have plateaued at a relatively warm level, which is sufficient to explain the continued retreat of most glaciers.
Here’s a US Geological Survey map showing glacier extent at Glacier Bay, Alaska, in the 18th, 19th & 20th centuries:

Notice that the retreat of the glaciers at Glacier Bay were retreating in the 1700’s, nearly a century before the end of the Little Ice Age, and nearly two centuries before there had been a significant anthropogenic effect on atmospheric CO2 levels. Notice, too, the large deceleration in rate of glacial retreat during the 20th century.
The advance and retreat of glaciers is complex, and not just a function of temperatures. That’s why some glaciers advance even as others retreat. For instance, w/r/t ice loss/gain at latitudes that never get below freezing, higher temperatures can increase sublimation but may also increase snowfall, and higher humidity can reduce sublimation.
