For urban stations, the older temps should be adjusted upwards – by as much as 5-8 degrees F, to account for the urban heat island effect today.
Request – would it be possible to create the same graphs for the State of California? They could really come in handy in the “heated” debate out here.
California is tricky because they recently added a station in Death Valley that skews the results.

California is one state where this sort of analysis is simply misleading. The widely varying climate there makes station location critical.
