The ice has melted, and love is in the air.
According to the Indonesian Council of Clerics, an influential Muslim institution, Valentine’s Day belongs to a faith other than Islam and is not part of Islamic culture. The calls to reject Valentine’s Day were echoed by Pemuda Muslimin Indonesia, a Muslim youth group. In practice, Valentine’s Day celebrations have been banned in Indonesia for several years, since a religious ruling or fatwa was issued in 2005.
The ban doesn’t consist only of words — it has teeth. The mayor has given both local police and the Wilayatul Hisbah Sharia Police the power to enforce the ban. Punishment for violations will be “re-education” in Muslim principles. In 2014, 80 Muslims were arrested for Valentine’s Day celebrations.
Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain also denounced Valentine’s Day as a non-Muslim tradition in a speech to students on Friday. The president’s words came after Kohat, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officially banned the holiday, directing local police to visit shops and markets to stop the selling of any Valentine’s Day cards or gifts. The Kohat district is governed by a religious political party.
I hope and pray the man in the picture is a guardian relative. I’d hate to see good Muslim women executed by their families for protesting Valentine’s Day with a stranger. Notice he’s nearly touching the hand of the girl next to him and who knows if they are not playing footsie behind the banner. I’m very suspicious of this picture. Every good Muslim knows that the men alone must decide such things and at most the women may get family permission to do it by themselves under the supervision of a Sharia vice squad.
What kind of holiday doesn’t involve suicide bombings and beheadings? And edible hearts should still be warm and beating! The modern peaceful Muslims long for the return of Valentine’s Day celebrations like we saw in 1929.
Hard to get a table booking for a decent restaurant in Jakarta on Valentine’s Day night.
Gay bucks kissing??…
Fighting over does.
Righ. A weak attempt at humor
Yea, great. After doing a 3 stop milk run up in the Chicago area yesterday and getting back at 7 PM I am already set to go out again departing at 1 PM.
Get an ExtaLease trailer that the company has and needs to be returned. Go to a local place to get loaded. Take the load down south of Atlanta to deliver. Turn in the ExtraLease trailer at their facility down there. Bobtail to the Nestles facility in McDonough, GA and pick up a Company trailer there that needs to be brought back here. Get a broker load from some so far undetermined location to get me back home. They throw these things together sometimes for us to do to take care of their special needs.
