Declining January Temperatures In The Midwest

January temperatures in the Midwest have been declining since the end of the 19th century.

The number of days above freezing has been declining.

The number of cold nights has not changed. January 2022 was unusually cold.

The percent of warm afternoons has declined, with last month being among the coldest on record.

Great Lakes ice cover is well above average.
