The Greenland Ice Sheet has a very short melt season, which normally begins in early June. This year the ice surface is continuing to gain mass on the summer solstice and is above average accumulation for the fourth year of the past six. Temperatures at the North Pole remain below freezing and continue to be record cold for June.
