The Washington Post knows about the 1930 heatwave. Unfortunately their editorial board doesn’t seem to read their own newspaper.

“By the end of the summer of 1930, approximately 30 deaths in Washington were blamed on the heat and thousands more had died nationwide. In Washington, there has never been another summer with a heat wave that has equaled the summer of 1930.”

I retired in Glenwood MN in 06 1/2 block from our Lake Minnewaska where I could fish to my heart’s delight in a rowboat because the best fishing was no more than a block out in the lake. There was a ridge, a bar, that ran out into the lake to about 1/2 mile where the crappie fishing in the winter was so good fish houses were so plentiful that Life magazine made an article about Crappie Town, USA. In the 30s things weren’t so good- from the north shore because of the drought a person could drive out about 1/4 mile out on the bar to a bait house then go fishing. That’s the way I heard it from my parents who grew up there during the no shortage of fish and game depression- which later precipitated the need for wild game seasons and limits and no more passenger pigeons or way less waterfowl.
