The newly-released budget deal between Democratic Sen. Patty Murray and Republican Rep. Paul Ryan will hike the aviation security fee paid by air travelers by 124 percent, if passed. Murray and Ryan settled on an agreement that would hit air travelers with a fee of $5.60 per one-way flight — or $11.20 for a round-trip excursion.

No one will be paying a dime more in taxes. Thousands of dollars, yes.
Even worse is this still doesn’t cover all the TSA costs. This is something like 60% of the cost meaning the actual cost is close to $10 per groping. Unbelievable how expensive that is.
Those words “I can make a firm pledge. …”, I wonder what they really mean to the Narcissus-in-Chief.
Really restores your faith in the importance of your vote, doesn’t it? Your only significant alternative to voting for Obama & Co in the last election was the ticket that included the supposed budget Wunderkind that helped cook up this excrement éclair. Among its attractive features is a cut to military (but not unionized federal civilian) retirement pensions, which Ryan argues will decrease the deficit by $7 billion over the next 10 years. That’s a sum about the size of a speck of navel lint alongside the $85 billion the Fed has been printing every month since last September on “Large-Scale Asset Purchases” (QE3).
Of course, Obama’s plan and the one proposed in the house yesterday are not the same thing. While I like most of the posts on this site, the apples and oranges nature of this post cannot be ignored.
The best result one can hope for is the nobody can take seriously a sentence spoken by the President that begins with the words “I can make a firm pledge”. This means nothing that he says is believable. Some of us knew this all along. Now others can join in the fun.
If you don’t want to hold him responsible for something that he actually said, I guess you can do whatever it is you would normally be doing then. Have fun!
How about getting the world-renowned American electorate to hold him responsible for ANYthing he has said falsely to the public over the last nearly 6 years? I don’t see any signs of fun on the horizon at all…
That would require a certain political party full of imbeciles to quit nominating turd sandwiches based on their “electability”.
I mean, it wasn’t the Tea Party who said, “Look, guys, just shut up & vote for Romney in the primaries & everything will work out fine. He’s from Massachusetts, Democrats will vote for him in droves!”
It would be easier to do as you suggest if Congress were actually voting on his plan (a plan he outlined in an election campaign). I don’t defend the President. I only suggest that the two comments that make up this post do not go together.
If Obama promised not to raise taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 then he needs to keep that promise.
The problem is that people believe that a President has the ability to make a promise on behalf of the legislature and actually keep it. The pending tax rate changes were automatic. In his world, he wasn’t raising taxes. The rates were returning to normal. See how easy it is?
As for how long a promise is to be effective, well…
Of course I refer to previous budget reconciliations. The President has not signed this proposed budget deal so he has not broken the promise in this instance. I feel dirty just typing this.
