    You know what? I hope to see the day why climatologists are regarded in thew same light as the alchemists. That’s right, some day we will be grateful that that discovered all sorts of stuff, but their raison d’être was total crap.

      I think they are closer to astrologists. Alchemists actually did experiments to try and make gold. Astrologists don’t experiment, they just make predictions based on Irrelevant data and a misguided belief system.

        OH MY!

        When I went to find out what EIKE was on Google, on the first page this popped up as #8. Studie von Klima-Skeptikern bestätigt globale Erwärmung (October 2011)

        Being the curious sort, I popped the first couple of paragraphs in to Google translate and came up with this:

        Study of climate skeptics confirms global warming

        The IPCC, NOAA, the CRU NASA and the corresponding researchers from various quarters for a long time been accused of constructing global warming only from the data. After the “Climategate” scandal in 2009 again came up doubts about the objectivity of the data in which it wanted some skeptics just knowledge and engage an independent study – which in the case is, that it was financed by a lobby from climate skeptics (for example, the US industrialist Koch).

        The so-called “Berkeley Earth Project” should re-analyze existing data of the surface temperatures of the earth, to determine whether it is global warming, or nicht.Überraschenderweise comes this study to the same results as the official studies:

        “To our great surprise, cover the new results with the warming values of the previous studies,” citing the BBC study leader Professor Richard Muller of the “University of California”.

        The skeptics study thus confirms the results of the criticized as implausible studies of NASA, the “National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration” of the USA (NOAA) and the British “Climatic Research Unit” (CRU): Since 1950, the Earth has globally by about heats a degree while now shown a 60 years lasting constant rise…..

        BEST and “I have never been a Skeptic” Muller? No wonder they wanted to rope Anthony Watts and Judith Curry into the study. No wonder Zeke Hausfather and the Mosh Pup are always hanging around WUWT.

        To the world Mueller, Judith Cury, Zeke Hausfather and the Mosh Pup are Skeptics who are accepted by the leading Skeptic blog WUWT and that has put the stamp of approval on the Climate Lies!!!!

          ……Nearly every single station in the network in the network has been moved at least once over the last century, with many having 3 or more distinct moves. Most of the stations have changed from using liquid in glass thermometers (LiG) in Stevenson screens to electronic Minimum Maximum Temperature Systems (MMTS) or Automated Surface Observing Systems (ASOS). Observation times have shifted from afternoon to morning at most stations since 1960, as part of an effort by the National Weather Service to improve precipitation measurements.

          All of these changes introduce (non-random) systemic biases into the network. For example, MMTS sensors tend to read maximum daily temperatures about 0.5 C colder than LiG thermometers at the same location. There is a very obvious cooling bias in the record associated with the conversion of most co-op stations from LiG to MMTS in the 1980s, and even folks deeply skeptical of the temperature network like Anthony Watts and his coauthors add an explicit correction for this in their paper…..

          The last couple of days I posted on an 8.5 year side-by-side test conducted by German veteran meteorologist Klaus Hager, see here and here. The test compared traditional glass mercury thermometer measurement stations to the new electronic measurement system, whose implementation began at Germany’s approximately 2000 surface stations in 1985 and concluded around 2000.

          Hager’s test results showed that on average the new electronic measurement system produced warmer temperature readings: a whopping mean of 0.93°C warmer. The question is: Is this detectable in Germany’s temperature dataset? Do we see a temperature jump during the time the new “warmer” system was put into operation (1985 – 2000)? The answer is: absolutely!

          So does that mean we should be SUBTRACTING 1.4C from the BEST and NOAA data from the 1980s on? {:>D

          Gail, Thank you for posting the study results from meteorologist Klaus Hager which undermines the alarmist contention that .5 degrees need to be added to counter the switch for LiG to MMTS. In addition, the switch from LiG to MMTS meant that stations were often moved closer to buildings. People walked from buildings to LiG to record the temperatures. Now, with MMTS, the building was connected by wire, and it often made sense to the installers to move the station closer to the building to save on wire. Of course, the closer the building, the more likely it is that heat escaping from the building will impact temperature reading — and the more likely it is that the thermometer will be located near waste heat from HVAC systems.

    I agree with the second part of this sentence, but the first is unlikely.
