Actually, the climate Californians call “normal”, is anything but.
Beginning about 1,100 years ago, what is now California baked in two droughts, the first lasting 220 years and the second 140 years. Each was much more intense than the mere six-year dry spells that afflict modern California from time to time, new studies of past climates show. The findings suggest, in fact, that relatively wet periods like the 20th century have been the exception rather than the rule in California for at least the last 3,500 years, and that mega-droughts are likely to recur.
The evidence for the big droughts comes from an analysis of the trunks of trees that grew in the dry beds of lakes, swamps and rivers in and adjacent to the Sierra Nevada, but died when the droughts ended and the water levels rose. Immersion in water has preserved the trunks over the centuries.
Dr. Scott Stine, a paleoclimatologist at California State University at Hayward, used radiocarbon dating techniques to determine the age of the trees’ outermost annual growth rings, thereby establishing the ends of drought periods. He then calculated the lengths of the preceding dry spells by counting the rings in each stump.

Possible, but not necessarily. Caif had record snow in 2011, which I do not think was an El Nino year.
In the past Calif has had many droughts this long, some followed by record rain.
It is infuriating how all these many, many (like, 90%) newcomers whine endlessly about how dry California is, at least, the southern half which has the most newcomers.
This is childish. The #1 reason the vast majority moved there in the first place was due to the warm, dry weather! Period! If they hate this so much they can move back to New York where many of them came from in the first place. It is plenty wet and cold here.

It is rare for leftists to apologize for being wrong, but they do sometimes come around, even if they don’t always apologize for their earlier errors.
It usually happens most dramatically when they come to Christ. Whittaker Chambers is probably the most famous example. Christ changes people’s hearts and values, when they give Him their hearts. He makes them less selfish, and more honest. In Chambers’ case, he was transformed from a bisexual communist to a Christian conservative family man.
Additionally, the whole neoconservative movement is made up of former leftists who were, in Irving Kristol’s famous phrase, “mugged by reality.” Those are mostly intellectuals who became disenchanted with communism, when its brutality became too plain to ignore.
Also, there’s a well-known process in which young people tend to become more thoughtful, less selfish, and more conservative as they grow older and acquire family responsibilities. As Dr. Janet Smith noted, “people who have children become better people.” There’s a famous quip about that which has been attributed, in various forms, to everyone from Burke to Churchill: “A man who is not a liberal at 20 has no heart, but a man who is not a conservative at 40 has no head.”
(Of course, that line dates from the days of bleeding-heart liberalism. Those nice liberals are mostly gone. Since killing inconvenient unborn babies has become a sacrament for liberalism, most people on the Left have hearts of stone.)
Among environmental activists, awakening from their delusions seems to be rarer, but Patrick Moore, Bjørn Lomborg and Steven Koonin are all leftists who’ve come around to some extent, and crossed swords with climate activist orthodoxy.

In the wet years before this current drought, they told us that global warming was the cause. It was well established that global warming would make most of California wetter. Then the rain stopped. Now, it’s well established that climate change will make most of California drier. I guess climate change is more powerful than global warming.
This is the time to act. Not tomorrow. Right now. Please, everyone, start burning coal. Just pull it out of the ground, and light it right there. If we can’t shift this back to global warming immediately, taps in Los Angeles could run dry. Millions could die. Think of the children.

If the global isn’t currently warming, as even the IPCC admits, then what’s the theoretical cause of the alleged climate change? It seems to me they’re claiming an effect without a cause. I’ve yet to read even a hypothesis about how CO2 might change climate without first altering temperatures.

My guess is that mass of warm water is the cause of both the western drought, and the eastern cold. It pushes the jet stream farther north, missing California entirely. From there, it pulls arctic air down through the plains, instead of the usual Canadian air.
The Blob’s companion the Ridiculously Resilient Ridge, would be what is contributing to the ‘polar vortex’ over the midwest and east coast.

The sooner the better my friend. My father built his house in the country, and soon after that he started wasting away from cancer, and thus never really got to enjoy the fruits of his labor. It was a hard lesson for me, and I wasted no time finding my little piece of heaven, and have enjoyed it for 13 years now. I am still a number of years from retirement, but if I die tonight, I will have had my fair share of time in paradise.

How often have you encountered a climate alarmist who will explain the physics of global warming supposedly caused by adding CO2 to the atmosphere? Now a few years of anything for such a petulant child is a super eternity.
