Antarctic Ice Area Has Been Above Normal Every Day This Year

Antarctic sea ice area has averaged 80,000 Manhattans above normal, and has been above normal every day this year.

NSIDC experts say that this has little effect on the climate, which is why Australia has been experiencing record cold and snow.

I prefer to use the word “average” over “normal”, when it comes to climate. The stats we have are simply averages over a brief period of history, and technically there is no “normal” in terms of climate. It is the speech of the alarmist and we serve everyone best if we do not adopt it.

By using “normal” one gives the public the impression that this interglacial should be taken for granted. I just watched a man lament over a receding glacier, and then had to listen to him preach about man’s responsibility to the planet. This was right after he marveled over the many high waterfalls of the Lauterbrunnuen Valley, including the 1000 foot Staubbach Falls. Apparently noone bothered to tell him about hanging valleys, and how, and when they were formed.

    • Billy Liar says:

Go to any glacier in the Alps and people will comment ‘you can’t deny global warming’. I suspect 5,000 years ago the people of Lauterbrunnen would have been saying exactly the same thing. We can plainly see how all those years of warming have been so bad for the planet.

I visited that very valley multiple times in the mid to late seventies, and the alarm then was advancing glaciers, and global cooling. If you ever have the opportunity to go to Lauterbrunnen, go.

I think you should apply to SI to have the “Manhattan” recognised as an official unit.

Now abnormally high Antarctic sea ice is totally consistent with warming. What ever happened to the old saying that “you can’t have it both ways”? The alarmists want to have every conceivable type of weather their way. Or even lack of weather their way (that’s weird!). Then when all else fails, “adjust” the data. Sorry, folks. That does not fly.

I’m in Melbourne, Australia and as far as I’m aware we are not experiencing record cold and snow. It’s cold and snowy but it’s been cold and snowy in October before. I assume it will be again.
