The wind suddenly picked up 7-8PM then casually mellowed into the night, but I’m in Morningside Heights, a Manhattan “mountain” with a block of side streets that suddenly plunge down towards Riverside Drive which itself forms a cliff overlooking Riverside Park which itself contains a steep incline and another small cliff that somewhat masks the fact that a damn highway runs through it. A huge tree that my block enjoyed in the fourteen years I’ve walked under it was suddenly and very loudly mulched entirely into sawdust by union guys with huge machines, last week. When it snows here, people sport umbrellas. Being raised in Minnesota, I always laugh at that.
