Hansen ran to the press this summer proclaiming the hottest 12 month period in history. I wonder why he couldn’t wait until the end of the year?
And one more minor problem …..
Record highs or record lows are newsworthy.
Running to the press about ordinary weather, that’s your job.
As usual you miss the point.
Rest assured, Hansen will be complaining about cherry-pickers during the La Nina, just like he did last time. He only approves of cherry picking during El Nino
Brendon
Here I’ll help you out. See the first graph has the max temp somewhere in mid-2010 then a strong drop off, which Hansen doesn’t use in his analysis (or cherry pickings). The second graph doesn’t even have 2010 as the hottest year…you can thank me later Brendon.

Correction:Record cherry picked highs or record cherry picked lows are newsworthy.
“Hansen ran to the press this summer proclaiming the hottest 12 month period in history. I wonder why he couldn’t wait until the end of the year?”
Because 12-month running mean temperatures provide more information than the usual graphs with calendar-year mean temperature. The 12-month running mean fully removes the annual cycle, which exists even in temperature anomaly time series.
In other words, it was an El Nino spike and gave him some good numbers.
What is astonishing is that activists like Jones and Hansen continue to play dominant roles in the creation of the basic temperature records. It is absolutely insane and has to stop.
Indeed. In most other profession one tries to avoid even the appearance of conflict of interest. Being an activist whilst at the same time being the gatekeeper of the basic temperature records is the very picture of a conflict of interest.
