Paul Beckwith is a Ph.D. student with the laboratory for paleoclimatology and climatology, department of geography, University of Ottawa.
By Paul Beckwith
On March 23, 2013, I made the following prediction:
“For the record—I do not think that any sea ice will survive this summer. An event unprecedented in human history is today, this very moment, transpiring in the Arctic Ocean.
The cracks in the sea ice that I reported in my Sierra blog and elsewhere have spread. Worse news is at this very moment the entire sea ice sheet (or about 99 percent of it) covering the Arctic Ocean is on the move (clockwise), and the thin, weakened icecap has literally begun to tear apart.
This is abrupt climate change in real-time.
Humans have benefited greatly from a stable climate for the last 11,000 years (roughly 400 human generations). Not anymore. We now face an angry climate — one that we have poked in the eye with our fossil fuel stick — and have to deal with the consequences.
We must set aside our differences and prepare for what we can no longer avoid: massive disruption to our civilization.”
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

Scientific method… what’s that?
Credibility meter reading: None Detected.
Cracks in the Sea Ice? This is why it will all melt?
What kind of PhD student is this? Doctor of politics?
PhD == Pile it Higher and Deeper
Cracks in the ice? More like ‘crack in the pipe’.
‘Stable climate for 11,000 years’. This from a PhD student of paleoclimatology and climatology. Absolutely stunning.
Gator,
As I think about this more, this person is actually really smart and has figured out how to get ahead as an academic in climatology. Maybe he believes it, maybe he doesn’t, but either way he is professor material that is for sure.
He could be picked to head NASA – just needs to emphasize the Muslim contributions to Arctic climatology.
Yea Steve. Gavin needs someone to hold his leash.
I do not ever consider liars to be ‘smart’, as it will come back to haunt them or their legacy, and it is hurtful to society. Clever maybe, but even a retarded child knows how to use lies to gain short term benefits.
Reserve praise for the praise worthy.
Just the tip of the iceberg of smug academic incompetence.
iceberg??? LOL They all melted. Pick something else. 🙂
The man’s a raving lunatic.
He should just change his name from Beckwith to Clueless.
Have to wonder how low the University of Ottawa would have to sink, how much integrity they would have to sacrifice to actually allow this dim bulb to acquire a degree.
Stable climate, Stable climate, the man is daft, off the chart daft.
Looks like libtard professors are teaching students to be libtards. Oh well.
“We now face an angry climate — one that we have poked in the eye with our fossil fuel stick ” Sounds like a doctorate in some sort of religion. We’ve made the climate gods angry? I believe the estimate for the time required to melt the arctic ice/greenland ice sheets is a couple millenia. Surely a doctoral student has the melt rate, energy required and time at his fingertips. Not terribly high on my worry list. I’ve scheduled a full hour to worry about it on 9/9/3513.
The only thing worse than being wrong – is to be loud about it.
It’s wrong on so many levels… can it only even be called wrong ?
He needs to read more extensively I think.
It is quite evident that the University of Ottawa is more atune to ideology rather actual science. If that is the fatuous product of student academic training from this institution, heaven help us.
