Global-warming deniers cherry-pick their facts

The cherry-picking season in the Okanagan is over, but it’s alive and well on the letters page of this newspaper, with a classic example via the tired meme: “The planet has warmed very little since 1998.”

Hmmm … why would the letter-writer pick 1998, one wonders? Well, it’s one of the warmest years in recent decades, thanks to a major El Niño, so if you pick that as a starting point — as global-warming deniers are wont to do –– ongoing warming looks less imposing.

It’s spin, pure and simple. The fact is that Planet Earth is heating up. Every decade since the 1970s has been warmer than its predecessor, driven inexorably upward by human-produced greenhouse-gas emissions. And this year is on track to be the warmest of at least the past 1,000 years.

Pederson doesn’t want to include the actual hottest El Nino year of 1998, but does want to include the completely fake “hottest” El Nino year of 2015. He wants to start the trend in the coldest decade of the 1970’s, and then accuses others of cherry-picking.

He is a typical global warming fraudster. Every single one of his facts is wrong, and he projects his own scientific malfeasance on to others. His job at the “Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions” tells us that he is a snake oil salesman charged with selling a completely useless product to the public.

I’m on my way to DIA on a city bus. Once I get to DC, I’m going to take the Metro to the train station and take a train to where I stay west of Gaithersburg. I will be using my bicycle and/or the train for commuting while I’m in Maryland.

Using bicycle/public transportation will save me about $400 on this trip, and generally saves me about $3,000 a year in other expenses.

While most of the Earth warmed rapidly during recent decades, surface temperatures decreased significantly over most of Antarctica.

But this cooling wrecked their global warming theory (poles were supposed to burn up) so NASA simply changed the data in 2009 – and Nature Magazine happily assisted their fraud.

NASA’s temperature fraud enables further fraud like Heidi Cullen claiming that all of the ice in Antarctica is going to melt.

Temperatures in Antarctica would have to warm up 120 degrees to start melting.

This might take a long time, since Antarctica has been cooling for the past 35 years.

The level of fraud on display from all the members of the climate scam is simply stunning.

Using DMI’s 30% concentration ice as the measure of extent, 2015 was the shortest melt season on record in the Arctic. Ice peaked around March 25, and bottomed around September 3. The melt season was about three weeks shorter than average.

The drop in extent during the second week in August, was due to cold winter storms breaking up ice in the Beaufort Sea. This made alarmists very happy, because it gave them a small excuse to lie about Arctic temperatures.

Heidi Cullen is engaged in her standard spectacular climate fraud today.

Like she always does, Heidi cherry-picked a cold year in the 1970’s to start her map.

But if we look at the entire US temperature record , we see that there has been no increase in autumn temperatures for 115 years, and that Heidi started her graph immediately after a large drop in temperature. Heidi is intentionally misleading her readers, and engaging in fraud.

Heidi and Climate Central are hoping that her readers are stupid, have short memories, and won’t recognize that they are being lied to.

The Arctic is rapidly gaining ice now, in what appears to be the shortest melt season on record – just over five months.

Climate criminals now get hysterical about one day of 96 degree temperatures in summer, and claim they are the hottest ever.

Let’s put this in perspective. In 1913, Greenland Ranch California had a week where every day was between 127 and 134 degrees.

During January, 1896 – Gundabooka, NSW had ten consecutive days over 120 degrees. Mark Twain implied that they must have been near hell.

During 1923-1924, Marble Bar, WA had 160 consecutive days over 100 degrees.

In 1913, Clinton, Missouri had 20 consecutive days over 100 degrees – the longest such stretch in Midwest history.

During July, 1936 – Ada, Minnesota had 12 consecutive days over 100 degrees. Minnesota hasn’t recorded any 100 degree days for the past two years.

Heatwaves used to be much worse. Climate criminals are lying about this, like they do about everything else.

Long term tide gauges in Florida also show about 2.5 mm/year, and no acceleration in sea level rise over the last century.

It will take 2,700 years for the launch pad to drown, and sea level will rise 9 cm by 2050 – not the 20 cm that Rosenzweig claims.  To put her idiotic claim in perspective, it is the equivalent of Bronze Age people making infrastructure forecasts for the year 2015.

What motivates NASA people to make these wildly fraudulent claims?

Elon Musk wants to nuke the Martian ice caps, in order to release CO2 and warm the place up.

Making Mars habitable is a goal of some very smart people, mostly because one day — either due to environmental disaster, an expanding sun, or any other number of disaster scenarios — the Earth will become uninhabitable.

But is nuking Mars really the best way to create a new Earth?

Right now, Mars seems like a dry, dead planet. But its polar ice caps contain about equal parts water and carbon dioxide.

Nuclear weapons could be used to vaporize them, releasing those materials into the atmosphere. Once the atmosphere got thick enough, the greenhouse effect would kick in: energy from the sun, absorbed by the planet and released as infrared radiation, would be trapped.

That would continue heating up the planet, releasing more carbon dioxide, setting off a chain reaction until, ideally, the surface pressure of Mars would increase enough for liquid water to exist — making it much more habitable for oxygen-producing plants.

“You could start turning Mars from a red planet into a green planet,” Michael Shara, curator of the American Museum of Natural History’s astrophysics department, told NBC News.

You just can’t make up stupid like this.

1. The nukes would only melt a small amount of ice, an hour later the temperature would be the same as it was before, and the ice would refreeze. Alarmists are always bragging about global warming accumulating billions of nukes every year.
2. The Martian atmosphere is already 95% CO2. Adding more will have essentially zero effect on the radiative balance. The Martian atmosphere contains about ten times as many CO2 molecules as Earth’s atmosphere, but the temperature there is -60C.
3. The total mass of the Martian ice caps (1.6E18 kg) if entirely evaporated, would only bring the atmospheric pressure on Mars up to about one third of Earth. This couldn’t happen, because half of the ice caps are water, and would remain frozen. The highest atmospheric pressure you could realistically hope for would be about 150 mb. At that pressure, the temperature on Mars would remain well below freezing.

Seventy years ago, scientists wanted to nuke Antarctica to melt the ice cap.  They never get any smarter.

This is blatant straight up fraud. By every measure, US September heatwaves were much worse prior to 1960.
