In New York yesterday the temperature was 103 deg. in the shade, or 3 deg. above the highest previously recorded, namely, 100 deg. In Pittsburg and Philadelphia many factories were closed, and the men were completely prostrated by the heat.  In these three and other cities thousands of persons sleep on the docks and in the parks, as it is quite unbearable indoors at  night.

Why should they behave any differently than the President of the US?

There are 629 HCN stations which have been continuously active since at least 1901. The hottest month at these stations was July, 1901 at 25.77ºC – barely edging out July, 1936 by 0.01 degrees.
