NEWBURYPORT — Pat Vaillancourt went on a trip last week that was intended to showcase some of America’s greatest treasures.

Instead, the Salisbury resident said she and others on her tour bus witnessed an ugly spectacle that made her embarrassed, angry and heartbroken for her country.

Vaillancourt was one of thousands of people who found themselves in a national park as the federal government shutdown went into effect on Oct. 1. For many hours her tour group, which included senior citizen visitors from Japan, Australia, Canada and the United States, were locked in a Yellowstone National Park hotel under armed guard.

The bus trip made headlines in Livingston, where the local newspaper Livingston Enterprise interviewed the tour guide, Gordon Hodgson, who accused the park service of “Gestapo tactics.”  “The national parks belong to the people,” he told the Enterprise. “This isn’t right.”

Freeman Dyson is one of the greatest living nuclear physicists and also one of the flat earthers whom science expert Obama doesn’t have time to talk to.

In 1953, my father studied quantum mechanics at Cornell under Freeman Dyson. He taught that quantum mechanics is settled science and well understood.

Then in 1986, my father attended a discussion about quantum mechanics at the University of Adelaide, when Freeman Dyson said “nobody really understands quantum mechanics.”

My father responded with “that isn’t what you taught us at Cornell”

Freeman Dyson responded with “I am older and wiser now.”

I doubt that the hockey team has the intelligence to arrive at that same enlightenment.

Stopa isn’t alone in criticizing the IPCC’s science. A top MIT climate scientist called the latest IPCC report “hilarious.”

Stopa, a lifelong fiscally conservative Republican, has authored seventy-five academic papers and received over a thousand citations of his work.
