Colorado Permanent Drought Update : Boulder Shatters Its Wettest Day And Month Records

 09/12/2013

Boulder has set a record for its wettest 24-hour period. Ever.

Prior to Wednesday, the single wettest day on record was July 31, 1919, when 4.80 inches of rain were recorded, according to Bob Henson, a science writer at the National Center for Atmospheric Research.

Henson said that the latest official readings for Boulder show that from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 9:15 a.m. today, 7.21 inches of rain have fallen in Boulder, with amounts likely varying from a bit lower in northeast areas of the city to higher than that to the southwest.

Additionally, the last three days of rain are more than Boulder has experienced in any month on record.

Since the rain kicked in late Monday afternoon, Boulder has recorded 9.61 inches of rain, topping the 9.59 inches recorded in the entire month of May 1995.

Earlier this year, global warming and the permanent drought brought Boulder record cold and its snowiest month on record.

April 29, 2013

April has been a freakishly cold month across much of the northern USA, bringing misery to millions of sun-starved and winter-weary residents from the Rockies to the Midwest.

Record cold and snow has been reported in dozens of cities, with the worst of the chill in the Rockies, upper Midwest and northern Plains. Several baseball games have been snowed out in both Denver and Minneapolis.

Cities such as Rapid City, S.D.; Duluth, Minn.; and Boulder, Colo., have all endured their snowiest month ever recorded. (In all three locations, weather records go back more than 100 years.) In fact, more than 1,100 snowfall records and 3,400 cold records have been set across the nation so far in April, according to the National Climatic Data Center.

Published NOAA US temperature trends have nothing to do with scientific or historical reality, and everything to do with providing political support for politicians who want the public to believe that CO2 is ruining the climate.

This is what the original US Weather Bureau map for August 1936 looked like, before the modern experts chopped 1.7ºF off the August 1936 temperature. Almost the entire US was blistering hot that month.

Obama Delivering Weapons To al Qaeda In Syria

The CIA has begun delivering weapons to rebels in Syria, ending months of delay in lethal aid that had been promised by the Obama administration, according to U.S. officials and Syrian figures. The shipments began streaming into the country over the past two weeks, along with separate deliveries by the State Department of vehicles and other gear — a flow of material that marks a major escalation of the U.S. role in Syria’s civil war.

Drunk Driver Kills Pot Head

A woman killed by a suspected drunken driver heading the wrong way on Interstate 25 has been identified as Jennifer Friede, a longtime Denver-area marijuana activist.

The Denver medical examiner’s office said Friede, 34, of Broomfield, was a passenger in a vehicle headed northbound in the high-occupancy vehicle lane near Park Avenue West early Saturday when it was struck by a vehicle traveling south.

Denver police arrested the driver of the wrong-way car, Rebecca Maez, 27, on suspicion of DUI and vehicular homicide. Friede’s boyfriend, Jeremy DePinto, was driving the car and also suffered injuries. The couple were headed home from a concert about 1 a.m.

My Longmont House Is About To Flood

Before moving to Fort Collins, we lived in Longmont, Colorado for 11 years (with a few intermittent stints in California.) Our house was one block from Left Hand Creek, and our youngest child was born there.

Longmont police officers went door-to-door in parts of Southmoor Park near Left Hand Creek this morning, telling residents to be prepared to evacuate.

Harry Reid Upset That Americans Don’t Want Big Corrupt Bankrupt Government

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Thursday said “anarchists” have taken over Congress.  Reid (D-Nev.) said Tea Party Republicans are preventing progress on an energy efficiency bill by offering amendments on ObamaCare and other unrelated issues.

“People who don’t believe in (big corrupt bankrupt) government — and that’s what the Tea Party is all about — are winning, and that’s a shame.”

On Wednesday, Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) said he would prevent votes on lawmakers’ amendments to the energy bill until he’s assured he’ll get a vote on his amendment, which would require some congressional and executive branch staff to enroll in the ObamaCare health exchanges.  “

It’s defund ObamaCare, and I guess as the fiscal year comes to and end that’s what it’s all about,” Reid said.
