February 28, 2011. Lakewood, WA. Something caused the compressor and gas line to explode at the bus CNG filling station in the Pierce Transit Headquarters and bus barn facility in the 9600 block of South Tacoma Way. Because the agency gets federal money, the ATF officials participated in the investigation Monday night. Criminal activity has no been ruled out and it is believed to be an accident.

Broken Arrow man killed when CNG tank bursts

Broken Arrow police say a man working on a pressurized compressed natural gas tank died Thursday morning.   Police say Wesley Little was working on the tank early Thursday morning in front of his CNG vehicle shop on North Walnut in Broken Arrow when the tank somehow ruptured. There was no explosion or fire, but the force of the pressure being released was enough to throw Little roughly 25 feet through the air, causing massive internal injuries and, ultimately, his death.   “It would be the equivalent of a vehicle hitting you at 35 miles an hour in the chest,” Tony Griffith, electrical engineer and mechanic with CNG Oklahoma Auto Sales in Tulsa, said.

During the northern hemisphere summer, alarmists get hysterical about Arctic ice extent – of course ignoring the other hemisphere. But during the winter, extent discussions are verboten. We are only allowed to discuss ice thickness during the winter.

I’m happy to play their stupid games. Ice thickness is the same now as it was in 1940.

Compressed natural gas (methane) tanks require pressures of more than 200 atmospheres. The energy stored in the compressed gas is in itself a bomb, but when a tank ruptures and the methane very quickly expands and mixes with oxygen in the air- the potential is created for a massive fiery inferno.

Gasoline is also very flammable, but has a vapour pressure much less than one atmosphere. A ruptured gasoline tank can make a substantial fire, but actual gasoline explosions require extraordinary circumstances.
