Bitterly cold temperatures gripped the West. In Arizona, the Grand Canyon airport observed a low of 20 degrees below zero Sunday morning.

That appeared to tie the all-time record low for the Grand Canyon since records began in 1976, previously set Dec. 23, 1990 and on the first two days of February 1985. However, the National Weather Service has not confirmed this record.

At 38 percent, the survey reported a 13-point spike from last year in those Americans who expressed were unhappy with current laws and supported stricter ones. A 2012 Gallup poll showed just 25 percent expressing that attitude.

This is almost unheard of. Must be due to warm air streaming down from the rapidly melting Arctic.

In order to determine if 2012 was the hottest year in the US, I need to see the temperatures for the last four days – which are missing. Many stations, Like Lemon Cove, CA have January 2013 data, but no data for December 28-31 2012.  Less than 10% of the stations have Dec. 28-31 data listed. That looks very suspicious.

The reason these days are critical is because they were far below normal temperatures. As of November – 2012 was in the number three spot, but a warm first three weeks of December moved it up to #1. If the last four days were more than 10 degrees below normal, then 2012 would drop back to the #2 position.

Hottest Year Ever Update

NOAA is about to claim that 2012 was the hottest year ever in the US by a wide margin, but their data shows otherwise. If US temperatures average less than -2C for the rest of the year (which is quite likely) – then 1921 will remain the hottest year according to untampered GHCN HCN data.

[Update : Further checking shows that NOAA has not included the last four days of December in the data set, which were very cold. This could alter the outcome]

I just checked over my graph and found a major mistake. Maximum temperatures were warmer in 1934 than 2012, but average temperatures were warmer in 2012 than 1934 and 1921. I had previously mistakenly graphed the maximum temperatures as averages.

The graph below shows the correct average temperatures.

The vice-president will recommend that it becomes a felony for anyone to have a gun within two miles of a school.

This is a brilliant idea for the following reasons :

1. Had Adam Lanza known that he could get in trouble for bringing a gun near a school, he never would have done it.
2. The armed policeman at the front entrance of the school could have stopped Lanza and arrested him for having a gun.
3. Since most people live within two miles of a school, it will effectively end the Second Amendment.
4. Criminals will then know that they can enter anyone’s house or business, and not have to worry about the residents defending themselves. This would be a huge help for many Obama voters, who have had to think twice before breaking and entering.

President Obama has clearly explained why guns create danger for everyone. The only solution is to make the US a gun free zone.

President Obama should set a shining example for all Americans, by disarming the Secret Service and removing all of the snipers from the roof.

This will make America much safer. Yes we can!

2012 ranked in the bottom half of years for record temperatures. The graph below shows the sum of record daily maximums and minimums for all GHCN HCN stations which have been continuously active since at least 1920.

1936 had more than twice as many extreme temperatures as 2012.

2012 also saw the fewest tornadoes on record and the longest streak since the Civil War without a major hurricane strike.

NOAA says that 2012 was the second most extreme year in US history, because they are completely FOS.
