As a state senator in Illinois, President Obama opposed legislation providing an exception to handgun restrictions if the weapon was used in the defense of one’s home.

Obama’s vote would have maintained the status quo, which made it a violation of municipal gun ban law to use a firearm to save your own life in your own home. But the bill was passed anyway without his support.

Mike Calnan, the National Trust’s head of gardens and parks, said the predictions were based on computer models generated by the Met Office Hadley Centre.

‘We looked at gardens in southern France and southern Portugal and, bearing in mind what we can grow in this country in mild locations, we came up with a list of probably things we could grow in the future,’ he said

He added: ‘The Met Office are saying that despite the recent concerns about the science, they are very sure about the underlying science.

Empirical evidence does not lend much support to the notion that climate is headed precipitately toward more extreme heat and drought. The drought of 1999 covered a smaller area than the 1988 drought, when the Mississippi almost dried up. And 1988 was a temporary inconvenience as compared with repeated droughts during the 1930s “Dust Bowl” that caused an exodus from the prairies, as chronicled in Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath.

But in 1999, NASA showed 1934 much warmer than 1998.

I overlaid the Climate Central graph on the NASA graph, at the same scale and normalized to 1998 (blue circle.)  As you can see, 2012 is in a dead heat with 1934 – and the past has been massively cooled since the 1999 NASA graph was made. NOAA has created the false impression of a warming trend – by cooling the past!

The Climate Central claim of 2012 being the hottest year ever is based on two big lies. The US temperature data has been massively tampered with, and the US does not represent the planet.

This whole “peer reviewed” scandal is disgusting beyond words. The claim that 2012 is unprecedented is sheer, unmitigated nonsense. EPA data clearly shows that the 1930s was the hottest decade, just as NASA and NOAA did – before they tampered with the data.

Some years are hot and dry. Other years are cool and wet. Droughts and floods occur at the same locations in different years – sometimes in the same year, like Australia in 1850.

It has been like that since the dawn of climate on Earth.
