Rewriting The Past At NOAA

NOAA has done a bang up job cooling past temperature records, but it also turns out that they have been reducing or entirely missing many other historic weather events. Their deadliest tornado list has either under-counted or entirely missed many tornadoes from the past.

Tornado Climatology

Ivan found this list of tornadoes which shows that they completely missed a tornado which killed 800 people in February 1884. That would have been #1 on the NOAA list. They also seem to have undercounted deaths from many others.

The following is a list of the worst tornadoes that have visited North America since 1880:

  • April 18,1880—65 killed and 200 wounded.
  • February 19, 1884—800 killed, 2500 wounded, and over 10,000 rendered homeless.
  • April, 1892—40 killed in Kansas.
  • June 14, 1892—50 killed in Minnesota.
  • June 20, 1893—16 killed in Kansas river valley.
  • September 20, 1894—75 killed in Iowa and Minnesota.
  • May 27, 1896—500 killed in St. Louis and East St. Louis.
  • March 30, 1897—Three-fourths of the town of Chandler, Okla. , destroyed.
  • May 9, 1905—30 killed at Marquette, Kan.
  • May 11, 1905—130 killed at Synder, Okla.
  • March 2, 1906—25 killed at Meridian, Miss.
  • April 24, 1908—500 killed in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama storms.
  • June 5, 1908—27 killed in Southern Nebraska and Northern Kansas.
  • March 13, 1913— Heavy damage and loss of life in Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Texas.
  • April 25, 1923— Nearly 100 killed in   Oklahoma.
  • July 23, 1923—63 killed in Pomeroy, Iowa.
  • June 28, 1924—67 persons killed and  scores injured in Lorain, O., by a tornado which swept the southern shore ofLake Erie, the property loss being placed at 25,000,000 dollars.

But it is worse than it seems. I found another article showing even more huge tornadoes which they missed, like an 1842 tornado which killed 500 people.

How To Stifle Innovation

During the late 1990s I was living in California and managing a large multi-national project for a French company. France (unlike the US and UK) is one of the few western countries where an engineering education is highly valued, and they turn out a lot of good engineers.

Unfortunately, France has very regressive labour laws (35 hrs/week max) which stifle innovation and makes them unattractive to start ups. So many of the best French engineers wanted to get green cards and move to California, where they could  actually make money.

Now France is piling on with a 90% top tax rate, which will drive off any hope of innovation, and will also likely drive Ibrahimovic out of PSG. Similarly, California has implemented repressive taxes like AB-32 which are driving start ups to Texas.

Government leaders like Barack Obama and Jerry Brown understand nothing about business, and simply see short term opportunities to steal money from anywhere they can.

For the good of the planet, of course.

During that time I was flying to the UK several times a month, and was astounded by the warm winters they were having. I had little doubt that global warming was real, and that snow was a thing of the past. At least until Robbie Burns night in 2003, when I got stuck on the train between London and Cambridge due to heavy snow.

Feb 09, 2003

During the past few days snow has fallen in the eastern parts of the United Kingdom. It is not an uncommon phenomenon in the winter, but it brought parts of the country to an uncomfortable standstill. Conditions on the M 11, one of the major motorways, which runs from London to Cambridge, were chaotic. Motorists spent up to 15 hours unable to move, and with virtually no help from the emergency services.

Shhh… Serious Scientists At Work

USA Today of course sucks this crap up without doing any fact checking.

Iowa scientists: Drought a sign of climate change

The report was signed by 138 scientists and researchers from 27 Iowa colleges and universities. They said they wanted to release the updated report now while the drought is still fresh in the public’s mind.

“The drought is sort of a teachable moment,” said Jerry Schnoor, co-director of the Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research at the University of Iowa.

Brilliant theory – except that Iowa has been getting wetter and experiencing fewer droughts.

Transparency In The White House

Obama promised to be the most transparent president ever.

He also succeeded in making EPA communications invisible.

Liberal group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a self-described “watchdog” organization, has turned on President Barack Obama’s administration for its handling of EPA administrator Lisa Jackson’s alleged use of secret email accounts.

On Tuesday, CREW demanded the EPA’s inspector general, Arthur Elkins, investigate Jackson and other EPA employees for using the accounts.

CREW executive director Melanie Sloan said in a statement announcing the demand that Jackson’s “practice of using fictitious email accounts to conduct official EPA business, shielding the contents from public view, conflicts directly with her responsibility to follow federal records law.”

The Buck Stops Anywhere But Here

Obama has tried to blame Benghazi on so many different people now, it is difficult to keep track. At one point he even got Hillary to take the blame.

http://townhall.com/tipsheet/guybenson/2012/10/16/hillary_blame_me_for_benghazi

This must be a different Hillary from the one who greeted the father of one of the fallen – and blamed YouTube.

The most remarkable thing is that no matter how many different stories and lies Obama delivers, the press corpse puts their knee pads on and swallows hard.

Obama should at least buy her a blue dress.

October Hurricane Strikes Occur One Third As Often As They Did During The 19th Century

www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/hurdat/ushurrlist18512009.txt

October hurricanes used to occur about once every 1.7 years, but now they only occur about once every 5.1 years. The years 1870, 1893, and 1963 all had multiple October hurricane strikes.

Climate experts tell us that global warming has increased the likelihood of late season hurricanes, because they live inside a fantasy world and never look at actual data.

The Mann-Made Climate Catastrophe

According to James Hansen, the US is warming at a catastrophic rate. But he didn’t notice the catastrophe until he made adjustments to the data, ten years ago. No one else noticed the catastrophe either – until adjustments were made.

Hansen didn’t see any warming or climate catastrophe

Empirical evidence does not lend much support to the notion that climate is headed precipitately toward more extreme heat and drought. The drought of 1999 covered a smaller area than the 1988 drought, when the Mississippi almost dried up. And 1988 was a temporary inconvenience as compared with repeated droughts during the 1930s “Dust Bowl” that caused an exodus from the prairies, as chronicled in Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath.

in the U.S. there has been little temperature change in the past 50 years, the time of rapidly increasing greenhouse gases — in fact, there was a slight cooling throughout much of the country

NASA GISS: Science Briefs: Whither U.S. Climate?

NOAA and CRU didn’t see any warming

February 04, 1989

Last week, scientists from the United States Commerce Department’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said that a study of temperature readings for the contiguous 48 states over the last century showed there had been no significant change in average temperature over that period. Dr. (Phil) Jones said in a telephone interview today that his own results for the 48 states agreed with those findings.

Global Warmth In ’88 Is Found To Set a Record – New York Times

Since 1999 (when Hansen didn’t see any US warming) US temperatures have declined.

data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/Fig.D.txt

Then Hansen adjusted the data, and suddenly we had a climate catastrophe. There was no warming or problem in 1999, and then temperatures declined for 12 years – but now we have a climate crisis.

Amazing what Fortran code can do to alter the course of mankind

Similarly, the IPCC saw no hockey stick in 1990, but Mann discovered one around the same time as when Hansen discovered US warming. Just a coincidence – no doubt. No fraud or cheating or manipulation – just good solid science.

White House Hoping That We Are The Stupidest People On Earth

CBS News has learned that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) cut specific references to “al Qaeda” and “terrorism” from the unclassified talking points given to Ambassador Susan Rice on the Benghazi consulate attack – with the agreement of the CIA and FBI. The White House or State Department did not make those changes.

an intelligence source tells CBS News correspondent Margaret Brennan the links to al Qaeda were deemed too “tenuous” to make public, because there was not strong confidence in the person providing the intelligence

Sources: DNI cut “al Qaeda” reference from Benghazi talking points, and CIA, FBI signed off – CBS News

You can’t make this stuff up. There was no proof that al Qaeda was involved in a heavily armed attack at Benghazi on the anniversary of 9/11, so Obama did the obvious thing – blamed it on YouTube, and jailed the filmmaker.

The useful idiots at CBS news take the bait – hook, line and sinker.
