Alarmists believe that a 0.5C change in temperature is monotonic, your fault, and will kill all life on earth (except possibly cockroaches) – but ice core data indicates that 0.5C is just noise. 12C swings happen on a regular basis and humans have survived several of these swings.

North Pole could be ice-free this summer, scientists say

The North Pole may be briefly ice-free by September as global warming melts away Arctic sea ice, according to scientists from the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colorado.

“We kind of have an informal betting pool going around in our center and that betting pool is ‘does the North Pole melt out this summer?’ and it may well,” said the center’s senior research scientist, Mark Serreze.

It’s a 50-50 bet that the thin Arctic sea ice, which was frozen in autumn, will completely melt away at the geographic North Pole, Serreze said

According to PIOMAS, Arctic ice is now half as thick as it was in 2008.

Alarmists don’t care about actual facts. They chose instead to cherry-pick inaccurate late summer data (at one pole only) when the sun is low in the sky and it has minimum effect on the SW radiative balance.

The world is getting warmer – and US scientists now know precisely how much warmer. They calculated the radiation from the sun, the heat reflected back into space, and the rising temperature of the seas and say the extra warmth is equivalent to a 1 watt lightbulb shining constantly over an area of 1 sq metre everywhere on the planet.

That would raise average temperatures by 0.6C before the end of the century, they report in Science today. Warming at that level, maintained over 10,000 years, would melt enough ice to raise sea levels by a kilometre.

“This energy imbalance is the smoking gun that we have been looking for,” said James Hansen, director of Nasa’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies. “It shows that our estimates of the human-made and natural climate forcing agents are about right, and they are driving the Earth to a warmer climate.”

According to Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia,within a few years winter snowfall will become “a very rare and exciting event”.

“Children just aren’t going to know what snow is,” he said.

Professor Jarich Oosten, an anthropologist at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands, says that even if we no longer see snow, it will remain culturally important.

“We don’t really have wolves in Europe any more, but they are still an important part of our culture and everyone knows what they look like,” he said.

David Parker, at the Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research in Berkshire, says ultimately, British children could have only virtual experience of snow. Via the internet, they might wonder at polar scenes – or eventually “feel” virtual cold.

The National Ice Center says that Arctic ice extent is higher than the 2007 minimum.

The National Snow And Ice Data Center says that the National Ice Center maps are (by far) the most accurate in late summer.

So what do alarmists do? They ignore the only measurement which is accurate, and declare the end of the world based on the plurality of inaccurate measurments.

In 2009, the prophet Hansen forecast that the world would be destroyed in 2012 – if the prophet Obama failed to appease the CO2 gods.
