Someone gave me a good laugh this morning here when they commented that the last six months was the “hottest in US history.”

Weird, and I was thinking that would more likely happen during the summer. Here are the actual hottest six month periods in US history (based on USHCN daily data) with the listed month being the end month of the period.

GISS shows June anomalies north of 80N from 0-5 to 4C. They depend heavily on those large North Pole numbers to bring the global average up.

A couple of minor problems.

1. It is impossible to get those sort of anomalies over the ice pack in summer. Temperatures over the ice are buffered by the latent heat of melting.
2. Actual measured temperatures show that June was below normal north of 80N.

So where do the GISS numbers come from? They pull them out from where the sun never shines, because they don’t have any thermometers north of 80N.

Almost everyone believes that the earth has warmed over the last 80 years. The reason we believe that is because the same people who have been tampering with the US data set tell us that the planet has warmed over the last 80 years. Do we have any other reason to believe it?

No.

We know that the planet warmed from 1910 to 1945. We know that the planet cooled from 1950 to 1975. We know that the planet warmed from 1975  to 1998. Beyond those pieces of information, the relative position of 2012 and 1940 is a mystery.

So stop drooling. That is what Hansen wants you to do.

The Way it Is: Back to the  50s.

In  2006 , I loudly proclaimed on national outlets that we were going back to the  1950s  as far as the climate pattern went  and that  the patterns of the  50s which opened the east coast up for hurricanes, as well as  hot, droughty  look,  for the southern US  would take over. The reason was simple,  we were in a cycle roughly like the  period when the PDO and AMO warmed and a flip to the cold PDO was on the way.  So  its not brain surgery  to  then go to the maps of the summer of the  1950s with heat and drought,

and then the remarkable slamming of the east coast in the  1950s

This  Made  it relatively unremarkable to me to simply forecast the similar event based on the reality of where the pattern was going.

GISS June is out. Year to date average is 0.50, which would place 2012 as the second lowest year since 2004 if the year finished there.

The graph below shows the five year running mean of GISS  in red, with the last two years tacked on at the end (0.51 and 0.50)

Temperatures continue to plummet below Hansen’s Scenario C – which represents humans having disappeared off the planet twelve years ago. The only possible interpretation being that human generated CO2 has little or nothing to do with global temperatures.

Our alarmist friends, being the crooks that they are, will continue to pretend that they don’t notice this disaster.

Someone was on here earlier trying to claim that the large adjustments I am seeing are due to not properly adjusting for areal distribution.

What a load of crap – the USHCN stations are intentionally distributed fairly evenly and the same patterns are seen in the state data as are seen in the national data. The 1930s are being cooled in the vast majority of states.

The titles to the graphs are not consistent below, but they all show the same data – NCDC vs. average of all daily data.

In general, political conservatives haven’t been very pleased with a slew of scientific attempts — sometimes dating back well over a decade — to psychoanalyze their beliefs and behavior. Indeed, some on the right wrongly interpret these analyses as implying that conservatives have “bad brains” or a “mental defect.” Yet if psychology-of-politics research is really a veiled attack on the right, then why does it contain so many findings that cast conservatives in a positive light?

Chief among these, perhaps, is the discovery that conservatives, across countries, tend to be just plain happier people than liberals are. That’s not bad news for the right — it’s seriously bad news for the left.
