Why Joe Romm Doesn’t Follow Up With His Stories

The Romm strategy is to cherry pick a short term weather event, get his readers hysterical, and then never follow up later. If he did follow up, it would become clear that he is a propagandist rather than a scientist.

Last summer, Romm told us that the only way we could end the exceptional drought was to lower CO2 emissions.

Since he wrote that article, exceptional drought has dropped to one of the lowest levels in US history. It is also important to note that the category “exceptional drought” is a recent addition to the terminology. Had it been applied in the past, the 1930s and 1950s would have been much higher than 2011. Romm was intentionally misleading his readers at the time he wrote that.

Over most of the past decade, exceptional drought has declined – except for the one date which Romm chose to cherry pick.

Cherry Picking Season Is On!

More evidence of blatant deceit from the world’s largest ponzi scheme.

A University of Arizona report from 2006 found that large forest fires occurred more frequently in the Western United States since the mid-1980s as spring temperatures increased, snow melted earlier and summers got hotter, and that the fire season has grown. According to University of Colorado, Berkeley fire ecologist Max Moritz, the Colorado fire features “a lot of the characteristics we would expect under climate change,” including plentiful, dry fuel as a result of low precipitation.

The 1980s was the wettest decade on record in the southwest. I remember skiing in six foot deep snow at the Los Alamos ski hill – in October. All the bridges in Phoenix washed out, except for one.

So why didn’t they start their study during the 1970s – the normal cherry pick start date? Simple – because the 1970s was very dry and plagued with disastrous fires.

Polar Bear Triplets Are A Thing Of The Past

2007 : Dr Stirling says that the phenomenon of a female giving birth to triplets is now part of history with usually only single cubs recorded. Soon, he says, the species may be extinct.

2010 : sightings from guides this summer included surprisingly “frequent sightings of polar bear mothers with triplets,” “In a recent blog post, Selden predicts “prodigious numbers of bears” this year based on unusually high summer sightings.”

Climate Central Scaremongering To Increase As Research Budgets Get Cut

Wildfires in Western U.S. to Increase with Climate Change

Large fires in the western U.S. — such as those currently raging in Colorado and New Mexico – may be part of a shifting pattern of wildfire risk brought on by climate change, according to a study led by researchers at UC Berkeley.

The study, published Tuesday in the journal Ecosphere, analyzed the results of 16 different global climate change models. The models included variables such as annual precipitation and mean temperature of the warmest month and projected an increasein the frequency of fires across the majority of North America and much of Europe within the next 30 years.

“In the long run, we found what most fear — increasing fire activity across large parts of the planet,” said study lead author Max Moritz, a fire specialist with UC Berkeley, in a press release. “But the speed and extent to which some of these changes may happen is surprising.”

Complete  BS. The fires this year have not been large compared to those from a century ago.  The 1910 Montana/Idaho fire was almost 100 times larger than the big fire currently burning in Colorado.

As far as frequency goes, the National Interagency Fire Center reports that fire frequency is down 70% since the 1970s.

Scam of The Week – Claim That Forest Fires Are Unprecedented

The latest hysteria from the press is to claim that the forest fires in the west are unprecedented. (The most newsworthy one is about three miles from my house.)

Forest fires happen. They are an essential part of the forest cycle. The fires so far this year have been quite small compared to many in the past, like one which burned most of northwestern Colorado in 1898.

People making historical climate scare claims almost invariably have done no actual research into the historical record. Just the usual bunch of lazy scumbags.

Temperatures Trending Below Hansen’s Zero Emissions Scenario For 168 Months In A Row

According to Hansen’s own data, global temperature trends have been running below his scenario C for the last 168 months in a row. Scenario C assumes that humans essentially quit generating CO2 in the year 2000.

In a legitimate science, this would be definitive proof that the theory is a bust. So why is the government wasting billions and billions of dollars on junk science which refuses to die?

Yet Another Study Wasting Taxpayers Dollars On Global Warming Propaganda

Mass migration towards poles has begun: new Science metastudy shows species move on average 17.6 kilometres per decade

Posted on August 19, 2011 by Rolf Schuttenhelm

Today new climate migration insights were published in Science. They show the process is happing three times as fast as an older (2003) Science metastudy had predicted and close to the actual latitudinal speed of climate change over the last decades in Europe and North America.

happing?

In mountainous areas species respond to climate change by moving upslope. Over the last 40 years this has happened at an average speed of 12.2 meters per decade. [In mountains the median migration speed is 11.0 meters per decade, the median latitudinal speed is 16.9 kilometers.]

It is well established that the Northern Hemisphere was very cold during the 1970s. Why is it necessary for the government to keep wasting billions of dollars repeating the same cherry picked study over and over and over again?

Why doesn’t someone do an honest study – which starts in the 1940s? We see 1970s cherry picking in almost every single study coming out now. It is worse than intentionally deceptive, as it is intended to defraud the reader into drawing a wrong conclusion which the larger data set does not support.

Ten Degrees Of UHI Tonight

I’m just back from a UHI bike ride at 11pm. It was 60 degrees in the Safeway parking lot and 50 degrees in the open space on the opposite side of the intersection.

Weather is calm, and overcast with either clouds or smoke.

Arctic Doomed : Time For True Believers To Put Up Their Bets On The Record Minimum

Arctic sea ice extent is lowest on record for the date.

End of May ice thickness was lowest on record at 1.7 metres. Calculated by dividing PIOMAS volume by UIUC area.

Last September’s thickness was lowest on record at 1.3 metres. Headed for zero in 2015!

NASA’s Jay Zwally forecast a few years ago that the Arctic may be ice-free this summer.

NOAA says it is the hottest year ever.

Alarmists must be chomping at the bit to bet on a record minimum. It looks like a sure thing for PIOMAS believers. Who wants to bet?
