We know a lot of the history of how Hansen and USHCN corrupted the US temperature record in the year 2000, but much less is understood how he wiped out the northern hemisphere warmth from 1900 to 1940. The graph below shows National Academy of Sciences northern hemisphere temperatures (black) published in 1975, overlaid with the current GISS northern hemisphere plot (red). Hansen generally wiped 0-2-0.3 degrees off all pre-1940 temperatures.

Does anyone have any information how and when this was done?

Prior to both cheats, the northern hemisphere graph (black below) looked very similar to the US temperature graph (red below).

The cheat occurred in two stages. First Hansen corrupted the northern hemisphere data to make it appear different from the US data. Then he used that difference as an excuse to corrupt the US data.

Could Welsh sheep be wiped out by climate change?
They have forever been seen as a symbol of Wales – for better or worse.

But now the humble Welsh sheep has been issued a stark warning in the face of climate change: “adapt or die”.

A leading animal geneticist says the country’s current lowland ovine stock is “vulnerable” to climate change – and may have to be replaced en masse with more suitable breeds if the situation is not managed.

Professor Mike Bruford, from Cardiff University’s School of Biosciences, who has spent two years mapping the genetic codes of sheep in Morocco in a bid to unlock what adaptations allow sheep to live in extremely hot, dry conditions and in much wetter conditions.

The latest scam from the team is to ignore Hansen’s failed 1988 forecasts, and go back to a 1981 forecast. It turns out that forecast has already failed as well.  The graph below overlays RSS satellite data on top of his forecast.

Temperatures dipped during the 1980s and early 1990s due to two large volcanic eruptions. Then they rose until 2006, and have been falling ever since. Hansen’s feedback theories require an exponential increase in temperature, but the curvature of the actual data has been the opposite for the last 20 years – curving downwards.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the team stopped lying – about everything.

In the Congressional race in Washington’s First District, candidate Laura Ruderman (D-Kirkland) has strong views on climate change and global warming.

The Environment Agency has warned the UK to expect more floods but its advice seems to be falling on deaf ears

A moving new exhibition of photographs at Somerset House shows the human impact of flooding around the world over the past five years and provides an insight into how climate change may already be disrupting lives and livelihoods.

The images from major flooding events in the UK, Pakistan, Australia and Thailand feature victims and survivors as they cope with the inundation of their homes and the aftermath. The photographer, Gideon Mendel, says his intention is “to depict them as individuals, not as nameless statistics”. He adds: “Coming from disparate parts of the world, their faces show us their linked vulnerability despite the vast differences in their lives and circumstances.”

From the late 1970s until about 2006, I was a global warming stooge. I saw how the weather was warming in the southwest and in the UK. As much as I like to make fun of Viner, I completely bought off on the idea that snow was a thing of the past in England. The idea that increasing greenhouse gases raises the temperature, seemed quite reasonable as a hypothesis.

In the autumn of 2006, I started noticing that the weather was getting noticeably cooler again. I began to research the quantitative aspects of  Hansen’s theories – going straight to the source of NCAR’s radiative transfer models. What immediately became obvious is that the impact of rising CO2 is very small, and that Hansen’s theories are entirely based on an irrational view of the world.

Hansen believes that the system is inherently unstable, and that tiny radiative transfer changes greatly amplify – except in the case of solar irradiation. He ignores that case because it wrecks his theory.

The real world is buffered – i.e dominated by negative feedback. The bottom line is that Hansen’s beliefs are complete scientific garbage, and only serve as an indicator of his wildly paranoid view of the universe. He got so desperate to prove his theory, that he started cheating with the data. Probably the most egregious abuse of science in history.
