Dinosaurs’ digestive gases linked to global warming

LOS ANGELES — Dinosaurs’ gassy guts may have contributed to global warming tens of millions of years ago, according to a new study that finds a group of plant-eating dinosaurs could have produced about as much methane as all of today’s natural and man-made sources of the greenhouse gas.

One hundred ninety million years ago, dinosaurs started eating at Taco Bell and drove themselves to extinction.

IMPORTANT! Dr. Hansimian says “Pay no attention to the decline in temperatures which occurred after CO2 increased in the mid Jurassic.”

Hansen Smoking Gun : Sea Level To Rise 1,000 Metres

The Guardian, Friday 29 April 2005

The world is getting warmer – and US scientists now know precisely how much warmer. They calculated the radiation from the sun, the heat reflected back into space, and the rising temperature of the seas and say the extra warmth is equivalent to a 1 watt lightbulb shining constantly over an area of 1 sq metre everywhere on the planet.

That would raise average temperatures by 0.6C before the end of the century, they report in Science today. Warming at that level, maintained over 10,000 years, would melt enough ice to raise sea levels by a kilometre.

“This energy imbalance is the smoking gun that we have been looking for,” said James Hansen, director of Nasa’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies. “It shows that our estimates of the human-made and natural climate forcing agents are about right, and they are driving the Earth to a warmer climate.”

“Winter That Wasn’t” Forces Southern New Mexico To Deal With Snow

Snow-removal equipment part of proposed Las Cruces budget

LAS CRUCES — Two winters of colder-than-usual weather and snow has factored into the city’s preliminary budget approved Monday by city council.

The council voted 6-0 to accept a $299 million budget for the city’s 2013 fiscal year, beginning July 1. Included in the budget, for the first time ever in the city’s 160-plus years of existence, is equipment that could be mounted to two four-wheel drive pickup trucks that would enable those to also be used as snow plows.

The line item budgets $5,000 to purchase plows and equipment
that would spread salt or sand.

“During the past two winters, we’ve realized the need for that equipment,” City Manager Robert Garza said. “We grew more and more uncomfortable watching city employees slinging salt and sand out of the back of a pickup truck. That had to be hard on them, and I know it was hard to watch.

US Tornado Deaths Down 60% Since 1880

US Annual Tornado Death Tolls, 1875-present – NOAA Weather Partners

The worst year for tornado deaths was 1925. Forty-nine of the fifty worst years were below 350 ppm CO2.

Hansen says the climate is stable below 350 ppm.

The Winter That Wasn’t In Turkey

Climate experts tell us that the warm weather which typified this winter was due to global warming. They also tell us that the bitter cold weather which typified this winter was due to global warming. And it was all due to the missing Arctic ice, which is not actually missing.

Climate expert appears to be another term for imbecile.

Is Global Warming Unstoppable?

Nov. 22, 2009 – In a provocative new study, a University of Utah scientist argues that rising carbon dioxide emissions – the major cause of global warming – cannot be stabilized unless the world’s economy collapses or society builds the equivalent of one new nuclear power plant each day.

The Only Thing That Will Stop Global Warming Is A Massive Economic Downturn

A new report from the University of Michigan starts off its press release with a not so optimistic phrase: “It’s a message no one wants to hear.”

Just what message is this?

That it would take an extreme economic downturn to slow the effects of global warming.

The research conducted by José Tapia Granados and Edward Ionides of U-M and Óscar Carpintero of the University of Valladolid in Spain is considered the first to assess fluctuations in carbon dioxide based on measurable levels, instead of less accurate carbon emission estimates.

Tracking The Permanent Drought In Australia And Texas

If you ever get the feeling that most climate experts are completely incompetent, it is because they are completely incompetent.

January 4, 2008

This drought may never break

IT MAY be time to stop describing south-eastern Australia as gripped by drought and instead accept the extreme dry as permanent, one of the nation’s most senior weather experts warned yesterday.

“Perhaps we should call it our new climate,” said the Bureau of Meteorology’s head of climate analysis, David Jones.

It is a particularly appropriate read as we suffer through the hellish summer of 2011. While it is unknown exactly how much human activities are contributing to this summer’s unpleasant weather, one lesson from the book is clear: Get used to it. The weather of the 21st century will be very much like the hot and dry weather of 2011.
