CNN : “Many buildings are soon to be destroyed” – Nags Head To Disappear
As I write this, Hurricane Irene is on its way up the U.S. East Coast and, if the storm follows the current path projections, one thing is certain. Many buildings are soon to be destroyed — perhaps numbering in the hundreds – and thousands more will be damaged.
Dozens of artificial beaches — nourished beaches that cost millions of dollars per mile — will be narrowed and some will disappear altogether including possibly some that are a few months old like the new beach at Nags Head, North Carolina.

A Hurricane Of Backlash
Irene Was All Talk
Aug 28, 2011 2:40 PM EDT
That was it? New York was obsessed with the hurricane—and still is, but for a different reason. As Jacob Bernstein reports, the talk is all about a storm that was blown out of proportion.

“Perfect Storm of Hype”
Perfect Storm of Hype: Politicians, the media and the Hurricane Irene apocalypse that never was
There was almost palpable disappointment among the TV big guns rolled out for the occasion when Irene was downgraded to a mere ‘tropical storm”. In New York city, CNN’s silver-haired Anderson Cooper, more usually seen in a tight t-shirt in a famine or war zone, was clad in what one wag dubbed “disaster casual”.
He looked crestfallen and fell briefly silent when a weatherwoman told him that the rain was not going to get any worse. “Wow, because this isn’t so bad,” he said. “It’s an annoying rain but it isn’t even a sideways rain.”

Obama : “All indications point to this being a historic hurricane”
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dY1rh6royms]
Right. I ran the GFS/WRF model on Friday – and it predicted heavy rain, tropical storm force winds, breakup of the eye, and a complete breakdown of the southern half of the storm. Exactly what happened.
What information was Obama working with?

Only Two Locations Had 85 MPH Gusts
NOAA said that maximum average wind speeds at landfall were 85 MPH, hurricane winds stretching outwards for 90 miles. In fact, only two locations even had gusts over 85 MPH.
The 115 MPH is a mathematical outlier from a “trained spotter” – which is not credible and should be thrown out. The nearby weather station at Beaufort, NC, had a max speed of 53 MPH and peak gust of 70 MPH.

If Only It Were True
The Deniers of Global Warming are Winning
The House of Representatives voted 240-184 this spring to defeat a resolution that said that “climate change is occurring, is caused largely by human activities, and poses significant risks for public health and welfare.”
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce informed the Environmental Protection Agency that “populations can acclimatize to warmer climates via a range of behavioral, physiological, and technological adaptations.”
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced recently that melting of sea ice “will result in more shipping, fishing and tourism, and the possibility to develop newly accessible oil and gas reserves.”
Apparently these politicians know something that the scientists don’t?
The data of the past few years has shifted the paradigm for GW. What was forecast six years ago to happen in 2050 now is projected for 2020 (some of it is here in 2011).
