MSM : Crackpot Vs. Scientist

Crackpot

Roy W. Spencer received his Ph.D. in meteorology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1981. Before becoming a Principal Research Scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2001, he was a Senior Scientist for Climate Studies at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, where he and Dr. John Christy received NASA’s Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal for their global temperature monitoring work with satellites. Dr. Spencer’s work with NASA continues as the U.S. Science Team leader for the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer flying on NASA’s Aqua satellite.

Scientist

Bill McKibben wanted to make sure he warned his audience of one thing: he is the “bummer outer” of people, he said.

“I do apologize for being depressing,” McKibben said. “You all have had a nice day and now you come and listen to me and that will be that. I apologize in advance for that.”

McKibben said global warming is the single greatest problem humankind has ever faced, it will take a global movement to stop global warming from getting even worse, and the key to that movement is fighting the fossil fuel industry — or, more specifically, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

McKibben said he thought he would be content being a writer. Then he went to Bangladesh as a reporter and there was an outbreak of a disease caused by a certain mosquito. McKibben was infected and he said the hot temperatures that occurred because of global warming is perfect for mosquitoes. He said it was the sickest he has ever been and as he sat in the hospital ward he thought that it was not fair the people of Bangladesh were paying for a climate problem they have not caused.

Salon Hates Theory Which Matches The Data

“Actual science” is defined by models which have already failed miserably – like Hansen’s.

1930s Was Much Hotter

http://www.giss.nasa.gov/research/briefs/hansen_07/fig1x.gif

Prior to the year 2000, Hansen knew that the 1930s was much hotter than any other decade in the US, and he also knew that his current US record year 1998 was half a degree cooler than 1934.

Peter Ellis was complaining earlier that the current 1971-2000 baseline is slightly higher than the pre-1936 baseline. As you can see, even that wasn’t true until Hansen and USHCN corrected corrupted the data in 2000.

Rules #1 and #2 For Alarmists

1. Make a wild prediction of disaster, get it to every press outlet in the world. Any forecast of doom automatically makes you an expert in the eyes of the press.

2. When your forecast fails to materialize, make a press release saying that “it is worse than we thought.“

No Trend In Winter Precipitation

Jeff Masters said that the heavy snow last winter was caused by “global warming adding moisture to the atmosphere.” This is an fascinating theory, given that it was the 17th driest winter on record in the US and that there has been no trend in US winter precipitation.

Early sea ice melt onset, snow cover retreat presage rapid 2011 summer decline

Arctic sea ice extent declined at a rapid pace through the first half of July, and is now tracking below the year 2007, which saw the record minimum September extent. The rapid decline in the past few weeks is related to persistent above-average temperatures and an early start to melt.

Last week I gave a different, non-agenda based, forecast for August 1.

The Dawn Of Time

Earlier in the year NOAA defined the dawn of time as 1950, claiming that they don’t know how many people died in weather related incidents prior to that time. Now they have moved the dawn of time forwards to the ice age scare of 1971, because it makes it possible to paint all their temperature maps red.

Isn’t science grand? The most important thing is to hide any data which doesn’t fit the agenda.
