May 12 temperatures have plummeted in the US over the past 30 years, with 2020 and 2021 among the coldest on record – down fifteen degrees since 1936.

On May 13, 1886 the Midwest was ravaged by deadly floods and tornadoes. A massive hailstorm occurred in Spain which killed dozens of people.  That year went on to be the most active hurricane season in US history with seven landfalls, including three in June – something which hasn’t happened in the past 30 years.

From July 18-31 1930, Charlottesville, Virginia had eight days over 100F, topping out at 107F on July 20.

Arctic sea ice extent is just below the 1981-2010 median, higher than 1989 and about the same as 1996.

Christmas Day 1983 was about ten degrees colder than any other Christmas, and largely wiped out the citrus crop. The warmest Christmas occurred 100 years ago in 1922.

This occurred after the March 28, 1982 eruption of El Chicon in Mexico, which caused temperatures in the Lower Stratosphere to skyrocket and then plummet.

The warmest Christmas at Dixon, Illinois occurred in 1982, and the coldest was 1983.

The summer of 1992 was the coolest on record in the US after the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo on June 15, 1991. We moved to Austin, Texas in May 1992 and I came to the incorrect conclusion the summer weather there was mild.
