That prediction looks on for Christmas week. When you look at the pressure map for Monday, high pressure dominates over Norway extending towards the UK. The warm air is trying to get in from the atlantic. Normally the altlantic air would win in this set up, but the Jet stream is taking low pressure away to Greenland. So the high prssure over Norway will extend over the north of the UK, allowing an easterly set up, that means cold and plenty of snow where I am on the east coast. Remember this is weather and not climate.
Climate is what you expect and weather is what you get!

You could look at the earth’s surface any day during the last hundred years. Some places will be above normal and others below normal. How many advanced degrees do you need to make that determination?

Warmer or, if you wish, hotter. That’s a relative term and above average temperatures, in that range, are enough to wreak havoc on at least a hemisphere wide basis when the Arctic ice cap fails to recuperate fully, let alone grow backlost ice due in part to those higher than normal temperatures.
For the moment now, a one way ticket back in time to Russia during it’s heat wave; In Pakistan during it’s floods; etc ad nauseum would suffice for those in a mocking mood. Back in time did I say? It was only last summer though it must seem half an eternity ago to some.
