Romm Goes Full Stupid On Tornadoes

Romm is blaming the high tornado count the last two weeks on global warming. There are so many things wrong with his analysis, it is difficult to tell where to start.

  • Global temperatures have been below the 30 year mean this year.
  • Most of the increase in tornadoes is due to better detection of small tornadoes. It is well know that severe tornadoes (F3 and above)  have declined, and that “significant” tornadoes (F2 and above) have also declined.

  • It is also well understood that the tornadoes this year are the result of very cold water and air to the northwest, colliding with warm humid air in the southeast. Last spring was much warmer and had below normal tornadoes.

Similarly, Romm blames the flooding on the Mississippi on global warming, despite the fact that there is no trend in precipitation.

Is the problem that Romm is not very bright, or is he just wildly dishonest?

He appears to be dishonest because he’s not very bright.

The term is Dumber than a Rock! That makes every claim he makes true to him! If he read in his Weekly Reader the sky is yellow he would proclaim that!

    Steven:
You realize you really should show some compassion and attempt to be Politically Correct about Joey. The PC phraseology would be SVC, Severely Mentally Challenged! Saying he is Dumb or Stupid might give the poor lad an Inferiority Complex that would lead to hysterical tantrums being displayed for the public.
Never mind Joey Boy already does that without our help!!!! 😉

I think that Joe Romm actually believes the things he says. He also claims the drought in Texas is caused by climate change as well a the floods in the Midwest. How is it possible that climate change causes both more moisture in the atmosphere and less moisture at the same time? I really think he is delusional.

Well CO2 is a magical molecule, capable of producing warmcold, wetdry and droughtflood as it sees fit. It can warm the Antarctic Pennisula while leaving the rest of the continent alone, warm the north pole while freezing North America and Europe. It can also beat up Mike Ditka and Chuck Norris at the same time.

    Maybe he’s ill…

Ganser syndrome is a rare dissociative disorder previously classified as a factitious disorder. It is characterized by nonsensical or wrong answers to questions or doing things incorrectly, other dissociative symptoms such as fugue, amnesia or conversion disorder, often with visual pseudohallucinations and a decreased state of consciousness. It is also sometimes called nonsense syndrome, balderdash syndrome, syndrome of approximate answers, pseudodementia, hysterical pseudodementia or prison psychosis. This last name, prison psychosis, is sometimes used because the syndrome occurs most frequently in prison inmates, where it may represent an attempt to gain leniency from prison or court officials.

Ganser is an extremely rare variation of dissociative disorder. It is a reaction to extreme stress and the patient thereby suffers from approximation or giving absurd answers to simple questions. The syndrome can sometimes be diagnosed as merely malingering, however, it is more often defined as dissociative disorder.

Symptoms include a clouding of consciousness, somatic conversion symptoms, confusion, stress, loss of personal identity, echolalia, and echopraxia. The psychological symptoms generally resemble the patient’s sense of mental illness rather than any recognized category. Individuals also give approximate answers to simple questions. For example, “How many legs are on a cat?”, to which the subject may respond ‘3?’.

  8. Andy Weiss says:

Tornado count means absolutely nothing since detection is so much better than in the “old days”. In the old days we didn’t have Doppler radar, nor did we have everyone with instant access to photo and movie taking devices. Also with the advent of the Weather Channel, the public as a whole has much more weather savvy than in the old days.

Another factor is growth of populated areas. It is doubtful that in the old days that weather service people would go out in the middle of nowhere to inspect a few trees that were knocked down by a weak twister. Now they make a fettish of doing do.

Romm spens a bit of time attacking the Koch brothers. They of course have large American factories hiring big numbers of union workers to make paper products. The Koch bros went to MIT just like Romm did but came out healthy.
