In the 1850s, the US averaged 2 hurricanes per year. This has steadily declined and now the US averages 1.5 hurricane strikes per year. The busiest year was 1886, with seven hurricanes making landfall in the US.ScreenHunter_390 Sep. 09 00.25

    Not quite fair, Steve. Those numbers need to be “adjusted”

    Subtract some from the ones on the left and add them to the right.
