Here is a list of notable snowfall totals as of 7 a.m. EST Thursday:
– 12 (30 cm) inches reported near Amarillo, Texas
– 11.5 inches reported near Colorado Springs, Colorado
– 10.4 inches reported near Canyon, Texas
– 8 inches near Tres Ritos, New Mexico
– 7 inches in Papa, Texas
– 5 inches in Cimarron, New Mexico
Widespread snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches are still expected across the area.

winter storm dumps more than a foot of snow in the Texas Panhandle – 11th snowiest day in Amarillo since 1892 – Whiteout conditions in New Mexico, closing roads and schools.
In El Paso, the Texas Department of Transportation was warning motorists to stay off the roads and watch for black ice on roadways.
In New Mexico, State Police tweeted several road closures and crashes due to “whiteout conditions.”
I- 10 westbound was closed in Las Cruces, where up to 5 inches of snow was recorded by midday. Up to a foot of snow fell east of Raton, New Mexico, in the town of Folsom.
Forecasters were predicting up to 7 inches in the Guadalupe and Davis mountains in west Texas through Friday morning.

Mostly, it depends on altitude. Above 6,000 feet you can get a lot of summer rain storms and snow in winter. The San Francisco Peaks at Flagstaff go to 11,500 feet and can retain snow into late July. It’s a skiing area. On Mount Lemmon by Tucson there is a ski chalet that is sometimes open by Thanksgiving. If you go camping in the White Mountains west of Show Low in the summer your tent better be water proof. There are skiing areas there, too. Dry is a relative term.
If you camp near Yuma, elevation 220 feet, during the fall through spring, you better love scorpions, tarantulas, and snakes, because you may be sharing your sleeping bag with them if you sleep on the ground. In the summer you really will dry up and blow away. However, the city has created a beach along the Colorado River that gets heavy use in the summer.

Northern Hemisphere snow cover through January 27, 2015. Vast majority shows no anomaly. Meaning there is a lot of snow in the NH. Though portions of the Western U.S. could sure use some snow.

Just heard a radio report, lowest snow on Vancouver Island since the 1970s. Followed by some professor explaining this is exactly what global warming theory predicts.

Ah 139.5 in = 11.6 feet. My question is I had not seen the MAX line before. So apparently Maximum of 11.6 is some kind of 99.9% confidence upper limit. Was interested if anyone knew anything about why and how that is there.
The Weather Street model isn’t being so generous. It will be interesting to compare the two over the next week.
