  1. SMS says:

Moomba received over an inch of rain on Saturday and another 1/2 inch on Sunday. That’s a lot of rain for the Outback in a two day period. All of the dry lake beds are probably filling with water making travel difficult.

  2. theyouk says:

OT–The family and I had a nice visit to Alcatraz this weekend. Nice, that is, until I saw the NPS sign re: man-made CO2-driven climate change & sea level rise. Here’s the main paragraph:

    The Rising Tide
Over the last 100 years, sea level in San Francisco Bay has risen 0.2 m (8 inches). Scientific studies indicate it could rise another 1 to 1.6 meters (39 to 59 inches) over the next century. Storm surge, high tides, and large waves during winter storms will flood coastal lowlands, wash away beaches, and undermine coastal bluffs. In fact, by 2100, today’s 100-year coastal flood event will likely happen every year. (Followed the typical plea to ‘live sustainably’, and scary maps showing areas of future inundation. It’s not like there are other larger hazards to SF…Isn’t that right, Andreas?)

Grrrr…8 inches in the last century? Approximately correct. However, sea levels in SF Bay have arguably been falling over the last 17 years. At historical rates of rise, it would be another 6.3 inches of rise by 2100, not 39 to 59 inches. And you have to love the “In fact…” followed by “will likely”.

Institutionalized propaganda, paid by the taxpayer. Lovely.

    • Jason Calley says:

Sure, sure, the tide gauges may not show much now, but Global Climate Models predict, uh, “project”, that on October 14, 2098, there will be a worldwide rainfall of 93 cm.

      🙂

    • gator69 says:

Not just propaganda, outright lies and fraud. Geologists have known for decades that San Francisco is sinking…

The San Francisco Bay basin in central coastal California has formed in response to the capture by and emplacement onto the Pacific plate of the Salinian terrane during the past 4 m.y. The addition of mass (the Salinian terrane) onto the Pacific plate caused the flexural downwarp of the Pacific plate and the formation and subsidence of the San Francisco Bay basin. As a result of continued plate-boundary evolution, sedimentary basins that previously formed in this way along the San Andreas fault may be ephemeral. Much of the basin may be removed during crustal capture by the Pacific plate and translation through Santa Cruz Mountain–like fault geometries. Remnants of such flexural downwarp basins may be preserved within the nearshore basins on the Pacific plate.

The following from wikipedia is interesting. Sounds a fun place is going to be lost in the never ending drought.

The Lake Eyre Yacht Club is a dedicated group of sailors who sail on the lake’s floods, including recent trips in 1997, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2007 and 2009.[16] A number of 6 m (20 ft) trailer sailers sailed on Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre in 1975, 1976, and 1984 when the flood depth reached 3–6 m (10–20 ft). In July 2010 The Yacht Club held its first regatta since 1976 and its first on Lake Killamperpunna, a freshwater lake on Cooper Creek. The Cooper had reached Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre for the first time since 1990.

When the lake is full, a notable phenomenon is that around midday the surface can often become very flat. The surface then reflects the sky in a way that leaves both the horizon and water surface virtually impossible to see. The commodore of the Lake Eyre Yacht Club has stated that sailing during this time has the appearance of sailing in the sky.

There was also a regatta in 2013

  4. Winnipeg Boy says:

From the story…;It was the 11th year in a row NSW and the Murray-Darling Basin had experienced above normal temperatures. Sydney’s nights were its warmest since records were first kept 149 years ago.’ and ‘While much of it was coastal, rain that did fall across the state fell at the wrong time for farmers, soaked into drought-parched soils or evaporated during scorching days.’

Lets examin the effect on the Australian wheat crop. 10 out of last 12 years the crop has been above 20mmt (23.244mmt this year). 3 new records in that time, the current being 29.9 mmt (2011). Wheat does not like it hot and wheat does not like it dry.

These buffoons would not last a week if they had to trade real money on thier BS. In fact, why don’t we make them do that?

  5. gator69 says:

“Australia has suffered a decade of drought, epic floods, a Category 5 cyclone, and a plague of locusts. But just because Aussies have the biggest carbon footprint in the world, it doesn’t mean they’re stupid.”

Did the ancient Egyptians have a large carbon footprint?

    • KTM says:

Don’t give them any ideas. Soft sciences like anthropology are heavily based on storytelling, and often try to incorporate modern fads in thinking to better resonate with a modern audience. Not unlike Global Warming hysteria itself.

  6. emsnews says:

The weather is always bad if you are a pessimist. And since global warmists are all ‘We are doomed!’ people, they only see bad things.

  7. Don B says:

“In 2007, Chief Climate Commissioner Tim Flannery made this bizarre claim while hyping the threat to Australia from global warming:

‘Even the rain that falls isn’t actually going to fill our dams and river systems.’

Flannery was completely wrong. Two years of record rains, floods and filled dams prove it.”

    http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/andrewbolt/index.php/heraldsun/comments/flannery_says_it_again_the_dams_wont_fill/

  8. Eliza says:

So P Geyer to SMS response with real data just disappeared hahahaha tells you everything about warmistas

  9. Eliza says:

Don B it was very very much worse than that. Due to T Flannery 14 died from extreme floods in Queensland State due to the government NOT opening the dams BECAUSE they applied FLANNERYS “theories that they would always be short of water. Full dams had then to be opened and caused the floods which killed people in Brisbane. There is I believe an ongoing legal tussle going on about this but basically it is The Australian man of the Year Flannery who should be blamed. tells you a lot about how Australians think/got educated, unfortunately

    • Streetcred says:

Our socialist state government of the time also ‘invested’ heavily … $$$Billion$ … in a desalination plant that has never been used, costs $$$million$ to maintain in its disused state, and is rusting away.

  10. ntesdorf says:

Normally dry Lake Eyre region in South Australia has received 200-mm of rain recently and the lake is starting to fill, much to the joy of the Lake Eyre Yacht Club. . It usually receives wateronly from floods in Queensland, but this water is delivered locally.
Tim Flannery is augmenting his now meagre income by selling umbrellas.

  11. Dave N says:

Now they’re blaming the extreme wet on CAGW. It’s rather comical that they wonder why the “message” isn’t getting through. With this kind of stupidity: who needs skeptics?

  12. Marsh says:

They should make a Movie called the Flim Flan Man : staring Tim Flannery , David Jones and Chris Turkey ; Other titles were considered : like Dumb & Dumber / David Jones Locker / Ship of Fools,, but those half-wit idioms, have been over exposed elsewhere ; at taxpayer’s expense !

  13. Andy DC says:

Have not heard the usual screaming about all-time record heat in Australia. Must be having a pretty mild summer.

    • Gail Combs says:

ABC had some of their funding yanked. They may not want to really look like fools and have the tax payers demanding the ABC be completely killed. There is enough of that type of grumbling going on at Jo Nova’s.

Jo herself suggested a tick box on the tax form. If you do not want your taxes to go to the ABC they would not get a slice of your tax money.

      • Marsh says:

Despite the ABC taking a battering for bias reporting on Climate Change ; they just can’t curb their obsession / doctrine – they still lead the way with the AGW agenda, we should remember, they were warned over their manner of reporting well beforehand.
ABC still presents interviews with every CC nutter,,, plus their bias radio stations across Australia; it comes across as settled science; like the ABC – “CC Crusade”.

Being a public institution , they linked in with the likes of the CSIRO and similiar organisations hooked on the same dogma & funding. ABC bias extends to the Labor side of Politics ; so slashing ABC funding was made doubly easy by Fed. Govt.
They say a leopard can’t change its spots ; the ABC shares a similar problem… they are fools in being so indoctrinated to AGW ; if it’s not their spots it will be their jobs!

  14. emsnews says:

It is near impossible to watch any nature/technology/science/cooking/history shows on TV anymore due to the endless itch to have global warming howls about how this that or another is going to doom us.

I was even watching a Car Talk Brothers show where after ten minutes, it was all about global warming and the evil cars needing to be eliminated! 🙂

    • Gail Combs says:

I am really glad I quit watching the Boob Tube forty years ago.

February 1981. My SF team was tasked with training a Battalion of the now deactivated 11th Reserve Special Forces Group in winter warfare. Training took place at what was then Camp McCoy, WI (Now Fort McCoy). Reporter from a local paper wished to do a story on the training. Female reported came with photographer. We agreed as long as there were not photos of the faces of any team member taken. They violated the agreement and we physically took the camera and film from the photographer and exposed it all.

February 1984. Deployed as part of an SF MTT (MTT=Mobil Training Team) to the vicinity of Beirut, Lebanon. MTT consisted of two 12 man “A” teams and a 5 man “B” team for command and support.

Things were very unsettled. The US Marines at Beirut International had been bombed just a few months before and had been withdrawn from the Airport just a week or so before. We used rental cars for our travels usually to help prevent being targeted. Changed the rental cars every week.

At this time with open combat going on for control of the Airport between the LDF and various Muslim militias with Syrian support, and after multiple kidnappings, bombings, ABC decided to do a story on SF in Lebanon. We refused of course. The only corespondent we would speak with was from the Stars & Stripes. ABC went ahead and did a story anyway including photos of a building in which they said we were staying. Wife recorded on VCR for me so I could see it when I got back. Thankfully their story was BS and we we’re not in the building they claimed we were nor even in the vicinity of it. A month later Bill Buckner the CIA station chief was kidnapped and murdered while we were still there. We were shelled by various artillery including guns, rockets, and mortars. While down near the “Green Line” in Beirut we were ambushed and snipped at.

Those two examples made it very clear to me that the traditional US press is the enemy of every person in the US military, if they know it or not.

The Car Talk Brothers is a radio show, at least last time I checked. It was an awful NPR show that an old girlfriend used to listen to, I think because she liked their accent. They were nice guys, but not funny, and laughed at their own bad jokes incessantly.

      • Gail Combs says:

Either Click or Clack (the older one) died so the show is all reruns. Before that one of them had Alzheimer’s. Hubby has been to their first shop in Boston called Hacker’s Haven. It was a do-it-yourself shop.

    • gator69 says:

If you insist on watching TV shows about cars, at least go with the best (much better accent too)…

And of course, they do have ideas on ‘greenhouse’ gases, but they are much more practical.

Sometimes I wonder if national legislatures are closed-cycle environments, hermetically sealed off from the people they “represent,” living as if on another planet.
And the Mainstream News Media acts as if it is a bubble baby, isolated from any fact that may contaminate its pristine existence.

Other days…hey, it’s snowing outside again! I expect snow during winter in the Northern Hemisphere, especially in the mountains. I guess I’m overqualified for Congress or broadcast television. 🙁
