Washington Post : Man’s Carbon Sins Will Lead To A Great Flood

The U.S. has caused more global warming than any other country. Here’s how the Earth will get its revenge.

Last year, we learned what is probably the worst global warming news yet — that we may have irrevocably destabilized the massive ice sheet of West Antarctica, which contains the equivalent of nearly 11 feet of sea level rise. The rate of West Antarctic ice loss has been ominously increasing, and there are fears that if too much goes, the slow and long-term process of ice sheet disintegration could accelerate.

Same whack jobs. Different millennium. Here is the same story from 1922

“the great ice-covered Antarctic continent. With ice ever forming above and a sea gradually growing warmer below, the process must eventually overbalance, the undermined glaciers disintegrate, and  the ice-cap break up. Mountain after mountain of ice will fall into the sea, be swept northwards by the currents, and melt, thus bringing about, but at a much more rapid rate, the threatened inundation of the land by the rising of the sea to its ancient level. Conceivably some such breaking-up of a polar ice-cap has occurred once before since man appeared on the earth. The Biblical deluge and the almost universal story, common to the mythology or traditions of peoples in all parts of the world, of a world-wide flood may have had its origin in the melting of the ice at the Pole and the pouring toward the equator of the pent-up waters.”

As I have written more than once, these people will never give up. Control is what they want, control is what this is all about.

    • beowulftoo says:

Romney has joined the AGW crew! I guess he wants power to control every facet of our lives also.

    • June9245 says:

Sounds a lot like Muslims, they love control, Do as we say or die.

    • Marion says:

Do these people actually think our memories are so short that we have forgotten 3 icebreakers got stuck in the “melting” ice last year? One for a couple of weeks, the others for a shorter time as they tried to free the first.

I guess the WAPO is without sin?

  3. West Antarctic ice sheet is melting at a few gigatons a year maybe 40 or 60 depending on who you believe. Antarctica has 29,000,000 gigatons of ice. At 60 gigs a year that’s 500,000 years to melt it.

But it gets worse. East Antarctica is gaining ice at the same rate so it’s a wash. There is no net melting, Wikipedia says Antarctica as a whole is gaining 20 gigs a year (citing Richard Alley).

    • Tallbloke made a mistake. He says Earth’s spin is slowing due to tidal friction from the moon, which cannot apply to Venus because Venus has no moon.

      Wrong!

Earth is slowing down because of tidal friction from the moon and sun. Venus has a sun.

      • nielszoo says:

Venus’s sons were Aeneas (father of the Romans) and Cupid, god of love. I’m sure there are some “friction” jokes to be made from that, but I’m leaving it alone.

Yea, that’s the thing. It’s not about science. Humans need to be dragged kicking and screaming to science by a Renaissance. Unfortunately, we seem headed for a new dark age. Humans just want to eat, drink, and be merry. Humans just want to fit in to a social group. We want to find some shaman to believe in.

There is perennial guilt. The apple of Eden. Everything that goes wrong MUST be our fault. Sacrifice a goat. Maybe that will prevent the flood. Sacrifice an innocent dioxide. Sacrifice SOMETHING!

    • Gail Combs says:

Bog bodies are kings sacrificed by Celts

“The king had great power but also great responsibility to ensure the prosperity of his people. Through his marriage on his inauguration to the goddess of the land, he was meant to guarantee her benevolence. He had to ensure the land was productive, so if the weather turned bad, or there was plague, cattle disease or losses in war, he was held personally responsible.”

At 6’6″, Old Croghan Man, who was killed between 362 BC and 175 BC, was a giant of a man. he bore every appearance of a nobleman from his well manicured soft hands to his diet, which was rich in meat.
Clonycavan Man was little more than 5 ft and used pine resin to keep his hair in place.

Kelly says Old Croghan Man died horribly, had had holes cut in his upper arms through which a rope was pulled through in order to restrain him. He was stabbed repeatedly and he had his nipples sliced, before he was finally cut in half.

Clonycavan Man was disemboweled and struck three times across the head with an axe and once across the body and also had his nipples cut…..

I think the ancient Celts had the right Idea. Iif we are going to sacrifice something it should be our political leaders. {:>D

  6. emsnews says:

Causes dandruff and psoriasis. Cure: Pay very high energy taxes and live in a hovel.

  7. Adrian Vance says:

This is such utter nonsense. The facts are very simple:

CO2 is a “trace gas” in air, insignificant by definition. It absorbs 1/7th as much IR, heat energy, from sunlight as water vapor which has 188 times as many molecules capturing 1200 times as much heat making 99.9% of all “global warming.” CO2 does only 0.1% of it. For this we should destroy our economy?

There is no possible “greenhouse effect” in an atmosphere. A greenhouse has a solid, clear cover that traps heat. The atmosphere does not trap heat as gas molecules cannot form surfaces as required for greenhouses. Molecules have to be in contact, as in liquids and solids like water and glass, to form surfaces.

The Medieval Warming from 800 AD to 1300 AD Micheal Mann erased to make his “hockey stick” was several degrees warmer than anything “global warmers” fear. It was the longest time, 500 years, of peace with great abundance for all.

Vostock Ice Core data analysis show CO2 increases follow temperature increases by 800 years 19 times in 450,000 years. That means temperature change is cause and CO2 change effect; not the other way around. This alone refutes the anthropogenic global warming concept.

Methane is called “a greenhouse gas 20 to 500 times more potent than CO2,” depending on who is raving, but it is not per the on-line absorption chart at the American Meteorological Society. It has an absorption profile very similar to nitrogen which is classified “transparent” to IR, heat waves and is only present to 18 ppm. “Green vegans” blame cow flatulence for global warming in their war against eating meat.

Carbon combustion generates 80% of our energy. Control and taxing of carbon would give the elected ruling class more power and money than anything since the Magna Carta of 1215 AD.

Most scientists and science educators work for tax supported institutions. They are eager to help government raise more money for them and they love being seen as “saving the planet.”

Google “Two Minute Conservative,” and you will be applauded when you speak truth at your next dinner party, barbecue or church picnic.

Adrian. The term “green house effect” in reference to the atmosphere has been in use for a very long time. I remember it from Jr. HS science classes. The word “effect” is the key!

Let me ask you this. Why can a person get sunburned on a cloudy day on a Florida beach?

    • John says:

Yup, that is why it is so much hotter on cloudy days. heat getting trapped in.
UV passes through clouds, burning the skin. IR is reflected and absorbed. that is why cloudy nights are warmer than cloudless ones. The water vapor gives back the heat it stores when the sun goes down.

    • Gail Combs says:

rah, sunburn is from UV light not IR.

  13. Ivan says:

150 years ago, carbon was seen as our salvation from a world getting colder:
    Coal Supply of the World.
As the earth, according to Professor Balfour Stewart, is slowly becoming cooler, the means of obtaining artificial heat must by degrees assume greater importance. It is at least comforting to know that the dearth of fuel is remote.
