I doubt climate experts in general possess merely one motivation. Some are probably true believers therefore dismiss any contrary evidence unconsciously. Others are probably too scared to not ignore inconvenient facts for fear of being ostracized and ridiculed. Others may just see the CAGW line as an easy way to get published and gain science “street cred”.
This plethora of motivations contributes to the unfortunate confluence of agendas that makes the entire CAGW “hoax” possible without much actual explicit collusion between individuals or groups.
Most people are followers not leaders. Keeping a roof over the head of your kids is going to be a big factor in how you deal with dishonesty and that is in every walk of life. Very very few have the actual option of standing up for the truth. Even Dr Tim Ball says he regrets taking the path he has taken because of the toll on his life and his family. (Mann’s lawsuit has beggared him as it was meant to.)
The federal government manufactures opinions on GW (or whatever cause benefits the feds) with grant money that is literally fresh off the printing presses. Disagree and find a new career. Fake dollars make a mockery of honest work. The federal government is at the root of what is wrong with modern America.
Remove the twistifications employed by the government climate scientists, and then correct for UHI and you get a world that is slightly cooler than the thirties. Not hotter. There is no way we are going to experience CAGW due to increasing CO2.
The only thing CO2 does is change how heat moves through the troposphere. Warmer lows at night and colder highs in the day. A win win for all but the neurotic morons among us.
