Sea levels north of New York City rose by 128mm in two years, according to a report in the journal, Nature Communications.
Coastal areas will need to prepare for short term and extreme sea level events, say US scientists.
Climate models suggest extreme sea level rises will become more common this century.
“The extreme sea level rise event during 2009-10 along the northeast coast of North America is unprecedented during the past century,”Prof Jianjun Yin of the University of Arizona told BBC News.
“Statistical analysis indicates that it is a 1-in-850 year event.”
BBC News – US sea level north of New York City ‘jumped by 128mm’
Fraudulent science doesn’t get any worse than this. There was a larger jump around 1875, which probably wasn’t 850 years ago. Almost all of the 2009-2010 gain has seen been lost. This event had nothing to do with climate.
There was nothing unusual about sea level rise during 2009-2010. The whole premise of this article is garbage.
The rate of sea level rise at New York hasn’t changed in 160 years. These scientists are engaged in massive fraud, intended for propaganda purposes only. Their work has nothing to do with science.
Then it has to do with geologic processes as the land gradually rising and settling after the last glacial?
The long term trend is due to glacial rebound. Short term trends are due to meandering of the Gulf Stream.
Being a grad of your EE school (I was also in the Engineering college), I have a couple quick questions for you regarding Profs you might have had. 🙂
Desperate times for desperate people. Their industry is in trouble; and it is an industry.
Not as big as the anti-science industry.
All those who believe this garbage should divest themselves of at risk properties at an ethical discount.
Anyone?
Yup, this is why waterfront properties in NYC are going….UP LIKE A ROCKET in value.
Sheesh. I used to live one block from the beach at Sea Gate which is the furthest out beach on the Atlantic Ocean in NYC.
I just wanted to drop the link of the BBC article. But s usual you already covered it.
The flood of Bull Shit just doesn’t stop does it.
And now we once agin see serious scientists like Mr. Soon being grilled by the Government and it’s government controlled media we know the traitors of humanity have focussed their efforts on the Paris meeting this year where they want to make a push for a global CO2 tax.
With Europe, the UK, Japan and the USA leading the Global Debt statistics and their policy to fight debt by creating more of it, a policy that already proofs to be unsustainable to their national banks, a complete collapse of our economies has become a reality and with it the necessity to get involved in shooting wars as a diversion and a scape goat for their treaturous policies.
They’re nothing but criminals to be put in front of a court.
The fact that not a single effort to sew these bastards has been made tells us how deep we have sunk.
Just keep up the good work and hopefully the upcoming crash will wipe out the parasites.
I know this is wishful thinking but hey, I’ m a born optimist and still think we have a great future ahead of us.
Especially because the biggest threat to our civilization is non existing.
Nobody knows what the future brings unless politicians turn it into a law and we let them get away with it.
R. de Haan,
Efforts have been made, but with corrupt courts and prosecutors you get no where as Heartland found out in the Peter Gleick case. BTW my Mother was killed by Rochester University during their secret experiments on human response to radiation in the 1960/70s. Now Rochester is at it again doing the EPAs dirty work for them.

Have you been to Europe? The internet is blazing fast.
And cheap…
Yes, this is all about MONEY. I recall the global warmist IMF clowns crowing that the CO2 derivatives/tax and trade scheme would be more valuable than world energy markets. Thanks, Goldman Sachs.
Liars…. There really is nothing else to call them. They have a bit of truth here and there, and even salt their words with statements like “Climate models suggest extreme sea level rises will become more common this century.” Technically, it is true that “Climate models suggest extreme sea level rises will become more common this century.” Of course the models have been proven to be wrong — but technically, yes, the models say that.
Still, they are liars. They have constructed an assemblage of words that is designed to deceive, to mislead the gullible. In fact, it will probably succeed in doing exactly that with far too many people.
Liars. Honest people, especially scientists, should shun them for the fraudulent liars they are. Shame on them. They defame science.
I showed the lower two graphs to my wife and asked her to pick out the once-in-850-year event. Then I had her scroll up to the labeled graph pointing out the cherry pick, and she couldn’t believe it. For them to fraudulently single out that one blip on an otherwise semi-linear plot is just embarrassing.
Speaking of sea level rise, Colorado University came out with Release No. 1 for 2015 yesterday.
http://sealevel.colorado.edu/
I ran some of my usual numbers to determine that since 1992 the acceleration in the rate of sea level rise continues to be negative at a minus -0.05 mm/yr².
I am not sure if this is based on this actual study of a rise in sea level that has been covered at WUWT and apart from the usual CO2 global warming claptrap is quite a good study.
It shows that that particular uptick in seal level was due to a change in the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, ie completely natural
see
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2015/02/25/local-sea-level-rose-4-inches-in-the-northeast-us-and-newfoundland-global-warming-not-to-blame/
While the person writing the press release may have fudged the facts, the actual study shows This study is good news not bad science. it is another nail in the coffin of people claiming everything is because of man and CO2.
From the WUWT article…
“The thing that stands out is the time extent of this event as well as the spatial extent of the event,” said first author Paul Goddard, a UA doctoral candidate in geosciences.
Co-author Jianjun Yin, UA assistant professor of geosciences, said, “We are the first to establish the extreme sea level rise event and its connection with ocean circulation.”
Goddard detected the two-year-long spike in sea level by reviewing monthly tide-gauge records, some of which went back to the early 1900s, for the entire Eastern Seaboard. No other two-year period from those records showed such a marked increase.”
Is it an “extreme sea level rise event” if it’s undetectable to the naked eye on the tide gauge plots?
So, if you look only for 2-year events (not the larger 4-year event in the late 1880’s) it’s “extreme”, even though it’s lost in the normal variance of the data.
Count me as a critic of this overblown sales pitch from the scientists themselves.
Just looking at that chart, it seems they are ignoring the jump that occurred on or near 1982. In that year alone there was more rise than the two years they cite, and if you add
the year before that (while quite modest in itself) you most certainly get a larger 2-year event. So the claim that “No other two-year period from those records showed such a marked increase.” is patently false, by simple inspection.
I’m pretty sure I saw an example of how they must e measuring sea level rises on an old Gilligan’s Island.
The one where GIlligan was using the Professor’s water level stick to anchor the lobster traps.
When the Professor saw how much the water was rising he predicted that the island was sinking and that they would all neeed to get off or drown.
Glad to see that they’re keeping the spirit of the classics alive.
Let me know how much time that we have left. Need to get a couple of cases of Scotch and wine, plus some good looking babes on my boat.
