Why Baltimore Matters

The destruction of Baltimore provides an opportunity for the black community to stop blaming white people, and take responsibility. Because Baltimore City is two-thirds black, and is run by black people.

I was listening to NPR yesterday, and they were trying to pull their usual white progressive nonsense about how it was a lack of money for the schools, social injustice, etc. etc.

That is complete bullshit. Baltimore schools have plenty of money, but the students run off good teachers and destroy their property. I have blogged about this several times in the past year.

White progressives are doing everything they can to keep the black community down, by feeding the culture of blame and entitlement.

“It Is Not A Black Vs. White Problem” | Real Science

If we could just get typical white progressives like Barack Obama and NPR to shut up and quit being openly racist toward blacks and whites, Baltimore could use this as a moment to move forwards.

Contrary to the emotional blackmail some leftists are attempting to peddle, Baltimore is not America’s problem or shame. That failed city is solely and completely a Democrat problem. Like many failed cities, Detroit comes to mind, and every city besieged recently by rioting, Democrats and their union pals have had carte blanche to inflict their ideas and policies on Baltimore since 1967, the last time there was a Republican Mayor.

    Surely you jest?!

While PC-Progressives of other races are to blame, the hip-hop culture is doing excellent work destroying Baltimore’s chances, all by itself, thank you very much.

There’s no need to ascribe blame to others. Responsibility for oneself is the first requirement for change.

    • The point is that until people take responsibility, they can’t fix their problems.

      • rah says:

Please Steve. “take responsibility”? I would bet none of them even have a job.

…and, as Tony pointed out, it is progressive policy and leaders that encourage the angst and “I am owed” mentality in a culture lacking in morals and family structure Just as Jihadists profit from the “plight” of Palestinians, the progressive movement profits from perpetuating “victims”. The young men in the inner cities did not become irresponsible on their own, they were educated and paid to become that way.

Interesting graph, but not surprising. Should I feel that I am oppressed by Asians?

Don’t let your jaw drop too far, this fundamental change is not just happening in college application processes. This exact same methodology is also being applied to Credit Scores for home mortgages and car loans. – Sundance

…Then she eases into a potentially incendiary topic — one that many counselors like her have learned they cannot avoid.

“Let’s talk about Asians,” she says.

Lee’s next slide shows three columns of numbers from a Princeton University study that tried to measure how race and ethnicity affect admissions by using SAT scores as a benchmark. It uses the term “bonus” to describe how many extra SAT points an applicant’s race is worth. She points to the first column.

African Americans received a “bonus” of 230 points, Lee says.

She points to the second column.

“Hispanics received a bonus of 185 points.”

        The last column draws gasps.

Asian Americans, Lee says, are penalized by 50 points — in other words, they had to do that much better to win admission.

“Do Asians need higher test scores? Is it harder for Asians to get into college? The answer is yes,” Lee says.

“Zenme keyi,” one mother hisses in Chinese. How can this be possible?[…]…

…..Complaints about bias in college admissions have persisted since at least the 1920s, when a Harvard University president tried to cap the number of Jewish students. In November, a group called Students for Fair Admissions filed a suit against Harvard University for admissions policies that allegedly discriminate against Asian Americans. The group cited the 2004 Princeton study and other sources that offer statistics about Asian Americans’ test performance…..

  3. Gail Combs says:

We have had a ‘Blame Someone Else’ culture for a while. Lord help you if a child, not being watched carefully by a parent who is present, hurts himself on your propery or even in your vicinity. In an American court of law the ADULT WHO IS NOT RELATED is the one held responsible.

I learned this when a lawsuit backfired. A friend had a nasty dog that was kept in the house. His brother-in-law showed up with girl friend and gir friend’s child in tow. No one was home but the 15 year old daugher. When she openned the door the dog got out of her control and bit the child. Brother-in-law told his girl friend to sue. When it all was settled the judge nailed the brother-in-law as the only adult present not related to the child. (Karma can be sweet sometimes.)

You can trace the ‘Blame Someone Else’ culture to the psychologists couch and track that back to the funding of modern child-rearing practices.
The Hand that Rocked the Cradle: A Critical Analysis of Rockefeller Philanthropic Funding

Past research into the mental hygiene movement in Canada and the United States has tended to view it in isolation from co-temporary projects funded by Rockefeller philanthropy, such as mass communications research. The mental hygiene campaign aimed to modify adult-child relations by reducing the influence parents and teachers held over children’s personality development; the central aim of mass communications research was the development of conformity of opinion. One a project of social engineering, the other of social control, the two projects combined appear to have possessed considerable potential to work in concert to shift weight in the socializing matrix from families and schools to the media at the outset of the post-World War II baby boom.

One never has to delve very deeply into the literature on child-rearing in Canada or the United States from the 1920s through the 1950s to find the hand of Rockefeller philanthropy supporting individuals or organizations involved in the production or dissemination of child-rearing knowledge, especially the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial Fund (LSRM). Mona Gleason, for example, frequently noted the funding role of the LSRM in her Normalizing the Ideal: Psychology, Schooling, and the Family in Postwar Canada. However, she made little of the source of funds for Canadian psychologists and psychiatrists such as William Blatz and Samuel Laycock.[1] Indeed, Canadian and American educational historians regularly note the incidence of Rockefeller philanthropic support for the principal opinion-leaders of psychological and educational circles but seldom consider the significance of this common source of funds in relation to the ubiquitous approach to child-rearing tendered by those of influence, nor its relationship to other programs funded by the philanthropy.[2]

In this article, I argue that Rockefeller philanthropy fundamentally controlled psychological discourse concerning child-rearing and pedagogical practices in post-World War II Canada and the United States. The philanthropy’s officers were, in essence, funding support for a particular psychological approach to matters concerning children so extensively and effectively that they in effect shaped the consensus for the “modern” child-rearing philosophy typified by Blatz and Laycock in Canada and Arnold Gesell and Benjamin Spock in the United States.….

“Some even believe we (the Rockefeller family) are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as ‘internationalists’ and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure—one world, if you will. If that’s the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.” —David Rockefeller, Memoirs, page 405

    • James Strom says:

Gail, thanks for posting that. On the quirky side, it’s informative because I sent my son to a Gesell Institute nursery school for a year or two. Other than keeping him off the street, the effect was nil.

The final paragraph by David Rockefeller is astonishing. Read carefully, and construed as written, it confesses to having worked against the best interests of the United States. I’d be tempted to say, “Aha!”, but this couldn’t have been what he meant to say. How a leading international banker could be so incompetent in writing is a mystery to me.

      • Gail Combs says:

David Rockefeller turns 100 on June 12 of this year. Memoirs is his Autobiography and he is BRAGGING about his role in the destruction of the USA which is necessary to usher in a world government. I think this major push for a world government happening now is because he is 100 and he wants to see the fruit of his labor a reality before he dies. Hopefully it is too early and we can stop him.

          -George Soros

        • James Strom says:

Gail Combs, I had a look at the page. Thanks.

Senility? The way to write what he wanted to convey is that world government is in the “higher interests” of the United States, and that he is proud to have advanced the cause. There is no way he accomplishes anything for his cause by openly announcing that it is against the interests of the US, even if he believes it to be true. So I continue to believe that he is an incompetent writer.

However, you may be right in thinking, if I may read between the lines, that he is a despicable man.

    • B says:

The Rockefellers playing around with education, medical care, and just about everything one can think of with regards to shaping society is something people in general simply refuse to learn and accept. People have been further conditioned to think ‘conspiracy theory’ the moment someone mentions the historical role of the Rockefeller foundation and its peers. It’s very difficult to fix things when people won’t even look at the root cause.

  4. SMS says:

If money were the cure for stupid people then Baltimore would be putting out Ensteins. They aren’t. If you cut the money to the Baltimore schools they would still be producing stupid people. The problem is the culture in Baltimore, and other large Democratic cities, that defeats learning by creating a society that believes it is worthless. Why work hard and get an education if you can sustain yourself living off the dole? Why learn if you can join a gang and have your self-centered beliefs reinforced? Why learn if you can have people like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson justify your bad behavior and continue making excuses by blaming others for your life in poverty and crime?

I doubt there is a cure for the problem that Baltimore has. The best solution is to keep it from spreading by keeping the progressives out of the educational system. To find what educational system works best look back in history to find what worked. Imitate that. Imitate the Asian community and how they value education.

Instead we pay educators a lot of money to dumb down our children because no one can be better than the person sitting next to them. Progressive ideas are going to defeat this country.

BlackChick gets to the heart of the problem: Where’s the Outrage over the Black Family Breakdown?

I’ve avoided writing about the Trayvon Martin situation because liberals assume I should have an opinion because I’m black and so was Trayvon. When something happens to a black person and it garners national news attention, the mainstream media trots out “the voices of black America.” This is offensive not only because the leftist mainstream media has appointed race baiters like NAACP, Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Eric Michael Dyson as our spokespeople but also because it assumes blacks are like children who need others think for them. White people don’t have white spokespeople speaking on their behalf and would never allow the mainstream media to dismiss their ability to think as individuals….

Rep. Bobbie Rush and others shouldn’t be spending time wearing hoodies on the floor of the United States House of Representatives, reinforcing negative stereotypes of the thug life (drug dealers with pit bulls, jailhouse fashion, women described as bitches and hoes and illegitimate babies in town). Juan Williams notes Hollywood glamorizes these images in movies and music videos, which has “young black people internalize it as an authentic image of a proud black person.”

“There is no fashion, no thug attitude that should be an invitation to murder. But these are the real murderous forces surrounding the Martin death—and yet they never stir protests,”

…an alarming trend in the number of black families headed by single women and the rise in illegitimate births among blacks. In 1964, 23.6% of black births were to unwed mothers today it’s 72%….

The unemployment rate for black teens in 1965 was 29%, today it’s 40%. Since the days of Johnson, Democrat policies like welfare have only worsened the problem for blacks by rewarding black women with taxpayer dollars for raising fatherless children. Moynihan’s report it reads like it was written yesterday rather than nearly 50 years ago. “In a word, the tangle of pathology is tightening,” wrote Moynihan. Indeed it is. The destruction of the black family is where blacks should be firmly directing their outrage not in hoodie protests “full of sound and fury” and achieving nothing.

Every group the ruling class pits against other groups has these false leaders. Every one of these false divisions. It has to be set up this way or the ruling class would have a very short life expectancy with what they are doing.

The real divisions are the ruling class, those that serve the ruling class, and everyone else. That’s it. It knows no color. Black politicians serve the ruling class.

But I am sorry that your statement did not express a similar concern for the conditions that brought the demonstrations into being. I am sure that each of you would want to go beyond the superficial social analyst who looks merely at effects, and does not grapple with underlying causes. I would not hesitate to say that it is unfortunate that so-called demonstrations are taking place in Birmingham at this time, but I would say in more emphatic terms that it is even more unfortunate that the white power structure of this city left the Negro community with no other alternative.”

$22,000 billion dollars since the 1960’s, and for what? And we’re told we need to spend more. For what. Add in unfettered immigration, both legal and illegal, and frankly the nation is doomed. Nearly all of the new jobs created the past decade went to immigrants, as the war on the Citizen continues.

And no fans allowed at Camden Yard for today’s baseball game. Truly, the inmates are running the asylum.

  12. Ted says:

We all know why that city (as a Browns fan, I refuse to name that team-thieving hell hole) is burning, but we’re just not supposed to talk about it. Everything mentioned above is true, but the problem runs deeper. It’s just a basic fact of humanity. Black people and white people aren’t the same. I’m not saying either is better or worse, just different. And we have different beliefs about how things should be run. Sure, there are plenty of black people who fit in just fine with American culture. But the fact is, we have a fundamentally European culture. The percentage of blacks who don’t fit in will always be higher than the percentage of whites who don’t. It’s not either group’s fault. It’s the inescapable consequence of expecting people to live in a society that’s different than the one they’d create for themselves.

I don’t have a solution. But a problem this big can’t be solved until it can be discussed openly.

    • gator69 says:

I don’t have a solution. But a problem this big can’t be solved until it can be discussed openly.

I have been saying this for years. Thankyou for being honest, and for pointing out that we have a problem that needs honest assessment, and not PC pandering. Everyone is always dancing around the issue for fear of being called a racist. It is a cultural issue.

If people only knew what Lincoln said and thought, there would be riots at his memorial, and Dr King would never have given his famous speech there. It is truly a “whitewashing” of history and truth.

    • Neal S says:

Yet home-schooled black children do as well as home-schooled white children. I don’t think there really is anything innately different (other than pigmentation and appearances) between black and white. In other words, the innate differences between blacks and whites are only skin-deep. What is different though, is the culture.

It suits some to have things so. I suspect anyone who would be too effective in helping to change that culture might be cut-short, as this would be a threat to those who want things as they are. I am becoming suspicious that perhaps this is why MLK was taken out. Individual blacks here or there may learn of how they have been used, but most remain ignorant.

Unfortunately blaming others is part of our nature. It started with Adam and Eve. Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the serpent. Nothing in Baltimore will improve until and unless that victim mentality and chip-on-the-shoulder is changed.

He was delivering letters of protest (with stamps) to each Congress critters about the Supreme Court’s 2010 decision in Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission.

This is the text of the letter that Doug Hughes wants to deliver to members of Congress:

      Dear ___________,

Consider the following statement by John Kerry in his farewell speech to the Senate —

“The unending chase for money I believe threatens to steal our democracy itself. They know it. They know we know it. And yet, Nothing Happens!” — John Kerry, 2-13

In a July 2012 Gallup poll, 87% tagged corruption in the federal government as extremely important or very important, placing this issue just barely behind job creation. According to Gallup, public faith in Congress is at a 41-year record low, 7%. (June 2014) Kerry is correct. The popular perception outside the DC beltway is that the federal government is corrupt and the US Congress is the major problem. As a voter, I’m a member of the only political body with authority over Congress. I’m demanding reform and declaring a voter’s rebellion in a manner consistent with Jefferson’s description of rights in the Declaration of Independence. As a member of Congress, you have three options.

      1. You may pretend corruption does not exist.

      2. You may pretend to oppose corruption while you sabotage reform.

      3. You may actively participate in real reform.

If you’re considering option 1, you may wonder if voters really know what the ‘chase for money’ is. Your dismal and declining popularity documented by Gallup suggests we know, but allow a few examples, by no means a complete list. That these practices are legal does not make them right! Obviously, it is Congress who writes the laws that make corruption legal.

      1. Dozens of major and very profitable corporations pay nothing in taxes. Voters know how this is done. Corporations pay millions to lobbyists for special legislation. Many companies on the list of freeloaders are household names — GE, Boeing, Exxon Mobil, Verizon, Citigroup, Dow …

      2. Almost half of the retiring members of Congress from 1998 to 2004 got jobs as lobbyists earning on average fourteen times their Congressional salary. (50% of the Senate, 42% of the House)

      3. The new democratic freshmen to the US House in 2012 were ‘advised’ by the party to schedule 4 hours per day on the phones fund raising at party headquarters (because fund raising is illegal from gov’t offices.) It is the donors with deep pockets who get the calls, but seldom do the priorities of the rich donor help the average citizen.

      4. The relevant (rich) donors who command the attention of Congress are only .05% of the public (5 people in a thousand) but these aristocrats of both parties are who Congress really works for. As a member of the US Congress, you should work only for The People.

      1. Not yourself.

      2. Not your political party.

      3. Not the richest donors to your campaign.

      4. Not the lobbyist company who will hire you after your leave Congress.

There are several credible groups working to reform Congress. Their evaluations of the problem are remarkably in agreement though the leadership (and membership) may lean conservative or liberal. They see the corrupting effect of money — how the current rules empower special interests through lobbyists and PACs — robbing the average American of any representation on any issue where the connected have a stake. This is not democracy even if the ritual of elections is maintained.

The various mechanisms which funnel money to candidates and congress-persons are complex. It happens before they are elected, while they are in office and after they leave Congress. Fortunately, a solution to corruption is not complicated. All the proposals are built around either reform legislation or a Constitutional Amendment. Actually, we need both — a constitutional amendment and legislation.

There will be discussion about the structure and details of reform. As I see it, campaign finance reform is the cornerstone of building an honest Congress. Erect a wall of separation between our elected officials and big money. This you must do — or your replacement will do. A corporation is not ‘people’ and no individual should be allowed to spend hundreds of millions to ‘influence’ an election. That much money is a megaphone which drowns out the voices of ‘We the People.’ Next, a retired member of Congress has a lifelong obligation to avoid the appearance of impropriety. That almost half the retired members of Congress work as lobbyists and make millions of dollars per year smells like bribery, however legal. It must end. Pass real campaign finance reform and prohibit even the appearance of payola after retirement and you will be part of a Congress I can respect.

The states have the power to pass a Constitutional Amendment without Congress — and we will. You in Congress will likely embrace the change just to survive, because liberals and conservatives won’t settle for less than democracy. The leadership and organization to coordinate a voters revolution exist now! New groups will add their voices because the vast majority of Americans believe in the real democracy we once had, which Congress over time has eroded to the corrupt, dysfunctional plutocracy we have.

The question is where YOU individually stand. You have three options and you must choose.

      Sincerely,

      Douglas M. Hughes

The protestors should be carrying signs that say “Black Fathers Matter.

“Where is the black mayor of Baltimore? She clearly ordered police to stand down, make no arrests, stop no crimes while her city was being destroyed, while the businesses she is sworn to protect were being looted and burned. She clearly said days before the riots went ballistic that she wanted to create a “space for those who want to destroy.” Then she blamed the media for merely repeating her words verbatim.

“What’s the excuse of the day? The excuse in the past was blacks felt powerless with white politicians and white police in charge. Well Baltimore is under 100 percent black and Democrat control. You mean blacks feel powerless with a black mayor, black city council, black police chief and minority-majority police force (meaning the police are made up of a majority of people of color). When do the excuses end? When do you stop blaming others?

It’s time to blame a black president. It’s time to ask what the Democratic Party has ever done for you except ensure you’re helpless, hopeless and dependent on government to survive.
